I’ve just read an interesting article on the psychology of child torture referencing this crime (link below). I’ve been reading about this family via Australian MSM but not on WS, so I hope this article hasn’t been posted before:

There will more than likely be a trial.

IMO

A not guilty plea is pretty standard initially. Once all the evidence is disclosed, I will not be surprised if they accept a “deal” which would avoid a trial and the possibility of an even longer sentence. Of course, a plea deal has to be offered first and it may not be. As long as they never get out of prison and their children don’t have to testify, I’ll be happy.

I have just a few things that I would like to say.

First of all, that Elvis was the absolute worst singer I have ever heard and his whole performance left much to be desired.

Second those poor girls teetering around on high heels that was so obviously the first time they had ever worn them nearly falling down sickened me to my core and the little boy (James, Johnathon?) dancing with those stick like legs was heartbreaking.

That being said, renewing your vows three times? Methinks they doth protest too much is all I can say. I have been married close to 48 years to hubby and a while back my sister asked me if we wanted to renew our vows on our 50th wedding anniversary. I asked her why I would want to do that since obviously they took the first time. That whole vow renewal thing is a huge waste of money to me. My money could be better spent taking a nice vacation to somewhere I haven't been before. But that is just me and I know some people like that kind of stuff. But three times? I think those vow renewals were all for show. A video to put on face book to show the world how in love they were and how happy the family was.

Now on to grandma and her statement of how nice and normal the family was 5 years ago when she visited for a week. "sweetie this and sweetie that and those kids never argued not even once." Come on Grandma, 1 week in 1 house with 12 kids and not one fight broke out among them? And you thought that was normal? I don't know what world grandma was living in but it sure wasn't the real world. My two youngest grandsons can't go one day without arguing over something.

Then we have auntie dear telling how when she was a teenager she lived with them and DT would watch her in the shower. She sounds like she is a few bricks shy of a full load. If my BIL had walked in while I was taking a shower and watched me I would have been screaming bloody heck and filing charges with LE. What is wrong with this whole family that they thought that was okay?

On the hand washing and once a year shower. Didn't California go through a severe drought in recent years? I can't help but think that they may have been threatened with fines if they used an excessive amount of water and that maybe the water bills there are very high because of the drought. Maybe someone who lives in CA could weigh in on the cost of water and fines for excessive use during the drought. That could have been how that started.

But there is no excuse for starving those kids. Mom in that video looked like a fat cow in that wedding dress. And Dad was sporting a big beer gut. Those poor kids with their stick legs standing beside them was a travesty.

Just one of those sport cars they had would have fed those kids for a while. And a 386,000.00 house? In my opinion those kids would have been better off in a 25 thousand dollar shack with food in their belly. But again I think the 386 thousand dollar house, the sports cars, the trips to Disney, the vow renewals were all to show the folks back home how well the family was doing in CA. All of it was for show. To show how normal and happy they were.

These two people are sick, and in my opinion should be locked up after they are sterilized so they can never bring another child into the world.

Wow! Thanks for adding a little comic relief to an otherwise horrific situation. You gave a me quite a few good LOL's, and are completely on point. So being a marriage and family therapist and human behavior specialist by training I could go into some pretty good detail about this family's problems but I'll spare you and just say at least for LT's side of the family, they were all so hardcore religious fundamentalists that they really screwed their kids up. They are blinded to any other reality but the one in their heads. The whole crew is def off a notch. I've mentioned it in a few other posts but I'm near 100% certain that LT has borderline personality disorder, which largely a result of overly authoritarian parenting styles. Obviously there's some genetic stuff there too, but in the nature vs nurture debate, nurture is the catalyst that makes it or breaks it personality wise. LT is another Jodi Arias, only her pawn was her children, and as such easier to control. The 17 year old who escaped was very wise to be as calculated in her escape plan as she seemed to be (2 yrs planning), because if she hadn't been successful, the outcome might have been even worse than what she'd been enduring already. I am so eager to hear about that plan and its execution.

Thank you TeaTime, but for some there is an upside and that is I became educated in order to try and understand the cause and effects of this poor treatment and it taught me to never, ever treat others the same way. I still have a short
fuse when it comes to bullies or those that treat others unfairly. I became much stronger because of this and learned to
stand up for not only my rights but for the rights of others. It's all good, thanks.

I had that thought too. And it is a thing discussed in abnormal
Psychology literature. Can't think of the name of the syndrome but it's one.

I know it's easy in hindsight for people to say this and that, and we wonder how no neighbors etc reported anything....I tend to think that if a websleuther lived next door this all would have come to light much sooner. Sometimes its a good thing to be nosy.

It's pretty standard to plea not guilty at this point. Most do.

I didn’t say they should be without people modeling appropriate and loving behavior, I said they should never have to call them by a name that signifies a family relationship, e.g. a name that has “parent” in it such as houseparent. Every type of relative has failed them. Yes, on great models, no on having to call them by names reflecting relatives.

They have only known horror from people who have born the names mother and father.

You said no one should be seen as a substitute parent. They need to see good parents.

This is like saying someone who has had an abusive husband should not ever have another husband.

I believe that part of the healing process is finding that family relationships can be loving.

I don't suggest they be forced to call anyone anything. But I absolutely believe they should have parents.

No worries. This “thing” was bothering too many of us, so we discussed this last night and decided on “Survivor 1, 2, 3, etc” with Tricia’s blessing. There is a photo on this thread and on the media thread with each of these dear survivors photoshopped with this designation by AnaPisces. Here it is again.

Wow. Only in looking at this picture has it hit me that the 2 year old is definitely out of place. Every other child is a stair step, then a 10 year gap. Something is fishy about that. Has to be a grandchild, imo. Have seen some posts questioning whether DT's one and only lewd act had anything to do with the two year olds arrival. Me thinks it must.

The process to terminate parental rights is determined in dependency court, and birth parents have the right to contest the termination, she said.

In the short term, the children will be placed in foster care, she said. Foster care parents can opt to become the adoptive parents.

I was severely abused by my mother who had crazy eyes like LT. I went to a lot of therapy and came to understand that she had the emotional maturity of a 3-year old and loved babies as long as they were like dolls. She kept having babies, but mostly had a lot of miscarriages and one "still" birth or maybe I would have 12 siblings instead of 4. Her childhood, especially at the age of 3, was extremely traumatic.......but I did six and a half years of 90 minutes a week to become a pretty healthy person.

I am so sorry for what you had to live through. Thank you for sharing and for your insight.

She was in her 40s by that time. Fertility usually declines as one gets closer to menopause.

For all of you people who are speculating that the infant is the child of one of the other girls: look close at the picture of pregnant mom----she looks just about as old and as bad as she does today---and that would have been three years ago.

I believe that mom had some sort of fertility treatment to help her get pregnant. She might have even used a donor egg (no, I'm not going to speculate that it was one of the daughter's eggs). I believe mom effectively entered menopause after #12, and received fertility treatment for her to get pregnant again 10 years after #12.

Really clear explanation of the process the survivors will go through, with LE, to uncover what happened.
The former FBI profiler being interviewed said she expects there is a sexual component to the depravity, which will be revealed in time.
She also said she would be very surprised to find that all of the children were LT's children.
