OR OR - Stephanie Warner, 43, Ruch, 4 July 2013 - #3

I try not to get my hopes up about the sheriff’s office conducting a search, but...I always do. This one is in the area of Trail, about 50 minutes from Ruch and not in an area known to be frequented by Ames. The most local missing person to that area is Malina Nickel from Shady Cove, missing since Nov. 2016. Apparently, this is one of many searches going on recently.

March 4, 2018–56 months since Stephanie disappeared and was murdered.

The vigil continues, even though we are “awful at waiting,” as Think put it so well. I wish we could be sleuthing away, but we did our best. Never forget these quiet threads. There are so many. Just as Stephanie adopted strays and nurtured them, go find a lonely thread, adopt it and keep it going with monthly posts. Stephanie would have done that with her big heart. So we can honor her memory by doing the same. :heartbeat:

A beautiful post, Lilibet - brought tears to my eyes... and what a beautiful picture of Stephanie... her pretty, fiery-red hair, and you can see the coolness + spunk she possessed, to go along with her big heart. Makes me so sad that we can't do more to see she gets her justice. But good perspective--we honor her and others by visiting such cases and pushing the threads forward. :heartbeat: :grouphug: :candle:

Thanks so much, Think. What a nice description of Stephanie. :)

I was doing a random Lennie Ames google search as I occasionally do and ran across something interesting. I knew about his two mining claims fairly close to Ruch that had been searched. But this link took me to two other claims, long closed, just over the CA border from Applegate Lake. These would have been possible for Ames to access during the time Stephanie’s car was in use the night of July 4/5. Hmmmmmm. Although I assume that LE knows all this I sent the link to Det. Henderson anyway.

If you click on the blue dot on the linked map, two white dots will show up. Click on those for details of each claim. For those who have been here for awhile or read all the threads, the “Wolf” name shows up on these claims. You may remember the howling wolf at the end of his YouTube videos (now deleted by YouTube for copyright infringement). There were other wolf references in the case.

In the first nine listings at this link, it shows Ames had 13 mines in various places over the years, including 3 in Wyoming and several near Eugene OR. The ones that were searched were “Bobcat” and “Eagle’s Nest” in Josephine county near Ruch AFAIK. I’d love to see the “Wolf” claims in CA searched if they weren’t.

That *is* interesting, Lilibet. I'm so glad you passed the link on to the detective. You never know when a detail that's uncovered/highlighted will make a difference! :websleuther:

It turns out that the search was for Malina. Stephanie was mentioned in the article in connection with the 19 open missing persons cases in Jackson County.

The searches this last weekend were related to the case of Malina Nickel who’s been missing since Fall of 2016.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Sergeant Scott Waldon says the office received a tip her remains could be buried off 227, but unfortunately deputies couldn’t find anything.

April 4, 2018–57 months since Stephanie disappeared and was murdered.

Sorry I’m a day late. Life gets busy and I lose track of the date sometimes. I wish Stephanie still had a busy life, but Ames took care of that.

On a positive note, I’m encouraged that Rebecca Zahau’s family won their civil lawsuit against her killer in San Diego yesterday, almost 7 years after her death. It’s unlikely that he will face criminal charges, but having her “suicide” proclaimed to be a murder in civil court is huge.

So even though the wheels of justice often grind slowly, we can’t give up hope that Stephanie’s killer will feel the consequences at some point. Thanks to everyone who still cares about Stephanie. :heartbeat:

Lillibet, he will suffer the greatest consequence one of these days. You can't hide your sins from God....doesn't help those left behind here, but His is the ultimate judgement.

I live close to this area and I remember when this first happened! TRAGIC! I have been recuperating from a surgery this past week so I've been watching TV. I came across "Cold Justice" Series 1 and 2 on Netflix and now on the Oxygen Channel. They go in to smaller towns and take on cold cases. A former Prosecutor and experienced crime scene investigators and homicide detectives who start from the beginning with local LE and review EVERYTHING. Has anyone that knows the family or is active in bringing justice to this case ever thought about asking this group to take a look at this case? Sometimes another set of eyes and "outside the area" individuals asking questions appears to add new information in some cases. Just my thoughts!

Thanks so much, Bree! I’ll take a look at the show. It sounds really good. I’m not sure that Stephanie’s case is considered a cold case yet and I don’t know if a request to this show has ever been submitted. From what I read, the request has to come from local LE, and be approved by the family and D.A. before it’s considered. It may be a long shot, but it’s certainly worth looking into and running it by the detective.

Hope you feel better soon. :)

Lilibet, thank you (and all the other posters) for keeping these threads going. Because of your signature, I started reading from thread one about Stephanie, and have read all the Websleuths' threads about her. It is so wrong, IMO, that she's still missing and no one's been held responsible. I hope justice comes soon for Stephanie.

Welcome to the thread, ?mysterian?!! I’m so glad my HUGE signature brought you here. :) Every once in awhile I think about making it smaller, but I never get around to it...and it’s brought others here too. I appreciate your reading all the threads.

Yes, it’s very wrong that Stephanie is still missing. It’s also wrong that there wasn’t a hue and cry in this area from the beginning. It was like the communities here as a whole just shrugged and went on with their lives. I understand that those in Ruch might have feared Ames, of course. And not everyone there liked Stephanie. But the silence was deafening and sad. I hope Ames is brought to justice in time for Stephanie’s Mom to see it.

Thank you for the welcome, I'm sorry it's because Stephanie is still missing. From what I could gather, her friend who posted here (I don't recall her posting name, sorry) gave lots of valuable info and had wonderful insight into Stephanie's personality. Your huge signature worked! I wish LE would question those who lived/stayed in Stephanie's house at the time of her disappearance.

Yes, we got lots of insight into Stephanie’s personality from Dicentra! :) I would have loved to meet Stephanie. LE did question Ames (holes in his story) and I imagine also his son and dil. Son and dil were living in Ashland by July 4, but quickly moved back to Stephanie’s along with Ames and dil’s mother who arrived from Georgia. Ames and son gave an interview on TV, filmed at Stephanie’s, which screamed Ames’ guilt IMO. I’ve never felt he acted alone in hiding her body, but that’s JMO. I really wish there was enough evidence to charge Ames and make it stick.

Of all the podcasts and YouTube videos out there, it seems some cases just never come up. There are some like Jennifer Kesse, Holly Bobo, Kyron Horman or Timothy Pitzen that are the subject of podcasts or videos. I often wonder why I see nothing out there on the Heidi Childs/David Metzler murders even I've suggested it to some podcasters and at least one true crime YouTuber.

Stephanie's case is another of those. If it weren't for Websleuths I likely would never have heard of her case.

Goes to show you, i found Stephanie's case through Lillibet's signature and now the HC/DM murders because of your post. Bumping for answers in both cases!

Thanks for bringing this case to my attention. Awful! Eight years!!

I’m glad my signature has gathered so many nice WSers. I guess I’ll keep it. :)

The only national publicity for Stephanie has been a Missing in America segment awhile back and part of a HuffPo article by David Lohr. I agree with JnRyan that getting attention for so many cases is practically impossible.

When I googled “Stephanie Warner missing” today, the Facebook page started by WSer Ouotp was the first link on the list. I noticed that the page has 999 likes, so I’m encouraging everyone to “like” the page and top 1000 as we approach the 5th anniversary of Stephanie’s disappearance and death. Feel free to post a comment too if you wish. It’s a pretty lonely page after all these years. :( Thanks!

There must be a way to make the poi talk.
This is ridiculous, if the poi at one time in his life, loved this woman then he should honour that by giving her the basic respect of having a decent burial.
Where are you Stephanie, it is time to come home.

Honestly, I seriously question whether he loved her. IMO He was an opportunist preying on a vulnerable, too-trusting woman, hoping to obtain her property. There is gold in “them thar hills” and IIRC some had been found on her property. He was a long-time miner and she asked his advice, as I seem to recall her friend Dicentra telling us.

So I don’t expect he will ever do the honorable thing. All we can hope is that someone finds her accidentally or that someone who knows something grows a conscience...before Lenny Ames dies.
