In regards to "unnamed sources", it is not unusual with journalists, it's a way to get otherwise unavailable information. When I studied Journalism in college and got my first newspaper job (a small daily) it was accepted that reporters would have MORE than one source before the story was run. I believe the Washington Post demanded three (3) sources/confirmations during Watergate. Alas, journalism has changed and the standards are not that high anymore.

The Journalist's Creed was written by the first dean of the Missouri School of Journalism, Walter Williams. One century later, his declaration remains one of the clearest statements of the principles, values and standards of journalists throughout the world. The plaque bearing the creed is located on the main stairway to the second floor of Neff Hall at the University of Missouri at Columbia,

“I believe in the profession of journalism.

I believe that the public journal is a public trust; that all connected with it are, to the full measure of their responsibility, trustees for the public; that acceptance of a lesser service than the public service is betrayal of this trust.

I believe that clear thinking and clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism.

I believe that a journalist should write only what he holds in his heart to be true.

I believe that suppression of the news, for any consideration other than the welfare of society, is indefensible.

I believe that no one should write as a journalist what he would not say as a gentleman; that bribery by one's own pocketbook is as much to be avoided as bribery by the pocketbook of another; that individual responsibility may not be escaped by pleading another's instructions or another's dividends.

I believe that advertising, news and editorial columns should alike serve the best interests of readers; that a single standard of helpful truth and cleanness should prevail for all; that the supreme test of good journalism is the measure of its public service.

I believe that the journalism which succeeds best -- and best deserves success -- fears God and honors Man; is stoutly independent, unmoved by pride of opinion or greed of power, constructive, tolerant but never careless, self-controlled, patient, always respectful of its readers but always unafraid, is quickly indignant at injustice; is unswayed by the appeal of privilege or the clamor of the mob; seeks to give every man a chance and, as far as law and honest wage and recognition of human brotherhood can make it so, an equal chance; is profoundly patriotic while sincerely promoting international good will and cementing world-comradeship; is a journalism of humanity, of and for today's world. “

Again, Casey was a named source. They did not claim they obtained the photos from an unnamed source.
This is flogging a dead horse IMO. Of course journalists in every type of news organization ascribe information to unnamed sources all the time. They often never disclose the source of very delicate information, particularly where a whistle-blower situation might exist. Think Woodward and Bernstein..... Reporters have been known to go to jail for refusing to reveal sources.

How do you know he had no assets? I am confused at that ? We have heard she had a home very nice one in NC that she acquired by herself no doubt this was before C.W. She according to her SM as a single worked at a car dealership . The house was huge!! She met C.W. at a really low point in her life , had been sick and misdiagnosed many times . IMO that would affect her ability to make money . She pushed him away but he stayed . She decides to move to Colorado, puts her house for sale. She sold it MM reported to a lawyer ,even leaving furniture behind . The lawyer stated she was in a hurry to sell.. We know she moved in with a friend to work as her nanny , we are unsure at this point what C.W. did . I would assume he stayed employed bc he qualified for a loan in his name only. We know within a year or so after marriage she became pregnant . Then shortly after pregnant again . SW got a job at the hospital which she left so she could stay at home and be a mom and her MK . We know they filed bankruptcy in 2015. We know at that time her wages were more but unsure why. We know she became a great MLM seller gaining benefits if travel and cars that could be matched if she met bonuses. We know she had lots of love from her family and friends.Thrive Healthy Fit Mom (@shanannwatts) • Instagram photos and videos

He is a monster he killed his family however I don’t understand why he is portrayed as a non go getter mooching off her
I am assuming he brought no assets to the marriage due to the low down payment they placed on the Frederick house, and how quickly they declared bankruptcy, shortly, thereafter. I did a search on SW’s NC house. It was purchased in 2009 for $334,000 and sold in 2012 for $350,000. That’s a $16,000 profit. If all the financial records posted here are correct, that’s about all the money they had when they came to CO. But I could be wrong. Please share if you know different.

I also have a Bachelors degree in Journalism. I earned it many years ago and so many things have changed since then. I agree, the standards today are quite different.

CW was the one who no longer loved his spouse and wanted to be free, so why would he have snapped if she was giving him what he wanted (i.e. leaving)?

Can't find the link now, but I seem to recall an early article with friend stating CW would give his life for his girls. If he killed SW in a rage, then why systematically kill the girls? Why sacrifice them to save his own skin when he was likely going to be caught anyway?

That's why I think he planned to killed all of them for his own selfish reasons, like not wanting to pay child support or having any further parental responsibilities.

Your post answered question nagging at me (and others) regarding Colo house loan/title. According to this SW link, CW and SW were NOT married at time they took on their house that was under construction. Makes sense now especially if SW still had not sold her own mortgaged home. Thanks!...

I read his demeanour (perhaps wrongly) as embarrassment initially actually when he was asked about his T-shirt in that awful interview. Then he just started babbling about it out of nerves. I think he said then that Shanann bought him lots of those types of T-shirts and he loved them, that she ordered them specially. She liked to buy him things and anything he would have put on him that day, she would probably have bought for him, out of love. It's really sad.
I think he lied about the shirt. When asked by a reporter where did he get the shirt, he first lied and said Shenann got it off Amazon.

The reporter then asked 'wasn't she just there?', then he quickly changed his answer to 'she actually got it from there.'

Nah, I don't believe him. He bought it himself when he was there, IMO. He lied in an effort to portray their marriage was in good condition.

You have only paid dollars of the capital of a mortgage after three years of payments.

I know interest would be accrued added to the principal . Generally everything goes towards interest for the first half of the mortgage before princpal is touched .

May I ask why you think they only put $2,000 down on the Saratoga Trail house if SW got $16,000 from the sale of her house? They were not paying rent, as they lived with SW’s friend that she nannied for.

I’m seeing more of an ego thing for the motive for these murders that reminds me of Scott Peterson. These 2 men (SP & CW) thought they were cool. Interestingly, they both were cheating on pregnant wives. I wish I could articulate it better, but I think neither one wanted to be seen as a failure or a jerk. They would have felt embarrassed and ashamed. Both of them placed a high value on their image and appearance. Both of them were filled with secrets and lies. I can see where they might take desperate measures to maintain the level in society they’d thought they’d achieved. They didn’t want to be found out.

Ah yes, that rings a bell. I didn't fully catch what he said about it. He could well have been trying to paint a rosy picture of the marriage, as you say.

Hello all -
First post here. I stumbled across WS about 2 weeks ago, while googling information on this case. I spent many a late night reading through your intelligent and insightful posts before deciding to register.

Like many of you, this case has hit me hard. The "WHY?!" and the "HOW COULD YOU?!" This case has made me feel like this could happen to anyone...

With CW on suicide watch, I really hope it is because he is actually feeling remorse and pain for what he has done since he has 23 hours with nothing but his own mind, and not because he's feeling sorry for himself. Though, the latter is probably more likely.
Welcome to WS @LovesChocolate -- you're among friends here!

When I posted same news about CW on suicide watch (i.e., People Crime), a fellow member reminded me that suicide watch was protocol for new inmates. As to remorse, CW will always view his actions as somebody else fault (he already blamed SW). He immersed his babies in crude oil, he obviously has no conscious and therefore no remorse. He didn't deserve a family, and no jail privileges should be the norm. The monster doesn't have another court date until November! MOO.
