I thought that might be the case too, but you'd like LE would be scouring the land immediately around the house over and over if they thought she fled on foot.

I can't figure out why they say they don't think she was abducted but yet say they are hopeful she is alive. She is also not a runaway. What are the alternatives other than abduction, runaway, or deceased?

That’s what I’m thinking. He was at the door and died at the scene but then there’s that whole suicide thing where officers called in s possible suicide - what’s that about?

I really just think that because of the area and that this was a very small town, the call was put in as a suicide attempt because of the yelling the background. When officers arrive they see a deceased male with a gunshot wound to the head. I really don't think that in a small town the first thing they think is double homicide with kidnapping. They probably go to the most common or easiest assumption and go from there.

That or the 911 call was staged to get the parents help and the screaming in the background was about suicide to throw the cops? I doubt its the latter but always a possibility.

I know several Websleuthers have talked about this and are troubled by it. I can think of several reasons for it, the best being they know where Jayme is and that she is safe, and they are keeping the lid on it until they can arrest the suspect. But that seems highly unlikely. Other reasons could be family privacy, and LE advising against it. I just have never thought those family appeals on the news would result in a criminal releasing a person taken against their will. Do we have any examples of family public pleas being a factor in a successful outcome of a missing person case?

Just a thought: Police have said the last time Jayme was seen, was at the family gathering on Sunday. We don't know, but likely police do know, what time they were last heard from either on active on electronics, a call or text with a friend or relative, etc.

I sure wish they'd release more, or clarify current info.

Okay so they purportedly confirmed that the father was deceased when they arrived. How then do they know for certain that Jayme was there and was taken? That has been bothering me, because for LE to assert that with such conviction they would have to have something rather concrete to confirm it. Any thoughts/ideas other than they were told so?

The sheriff stated in one of his press conferences that they know Jayme was there at the because of 1) due to evidence from the investigation AND 2) from the 911 call itself.

No clues, no sightings in search for Jayme Closs

The 911 call recording was processed by the FBI to clean it up. Something in the 911 call indicated she was present (as well as evidence from the investigation).

I've been trying out different theories, none of which really work. What about this one:

Jayme was the target of this perp. Who would target her? She doesn't fit with trafficking - she is not a vulnerable youth, but a young teen fully involved with family, school, activities. She is not involved with a custody battle. She's a young 13 year old who from all appearance is wholesome, innocent, quiet, sweet.

Who would be especially interested in her in this way? I'm wondering if it is someone with a particular interest in her innocence and sweetness. I'm thinking someone like the perp who took Elizabeth Smart. Someone who wanted her as a "wife." In this scenario, the perp likely had a place ready to keep her after he abducted her. It's likely a well-hidden place.

If this is the case, there is good hope she is alive. We just need to find her.

I don't have a top theory, but this is one on my list.

I absolutely could get to the idea that this wasn’t about Jayme. The way I would get there, is simply more information.

Some sort of work conflict. Some other type of strife by someone close to the family.

This case really has me scratching my head. So many things dont add up. If the parents were the main target, why kidnap Jayme?
If Jayme was the target, why go in and kill both of her parents and go through great lengths to take her? Why kill the parents and take Jayme? Could this persons mind be so distorted to think they were “saving” Jayme from her parents? Or was this person on a manic high, wanted Jayme and didnt want to wait, so they just showed up guns blazing. But then how would they be able to get away in 4 minutes, without a trace? This seems more planned, instead of something manic and impulsive. Its such a unique case, and right now so many things arent adding up based on the information that has been released so far.

In the Groene case the perp who killed everyone except the two little kids he kidnapped (Shasta and Dylan), he was a ruthless serial killer and enjoyed brutality.

In the case of an Ohio 13 year old girl who went missing, along with her mom, brother, dog and family friend, the deranged perp killed her mom, brother, family friend and dog, dismembered them and hid their bodies in a hollowed out tree. E kept her chained in his basement on a bed of leaves.

He claimed it was a burglary gone wrong but I think it's clear he had been fantasizing about murdering people and likely wanted to take the girl.

Why kill everyone? Well they probably think it helps them avoid detection.

But for some monsters it's part of the "fun."
