Former Patriots Practice Squad Player Charged in Murder of 5-Year-Old

A former New England Patriots practice squad player arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of child abuse now faces murder charges after the 5-year-old girl died.

KSNV-TV reports Las Vegas police arrested 28-year-old Cierre Wood on Wednesday and added the murder charge Thursday. He originally was charged with first-degree child abuse and neglect.

Would it surprise anyone Cierre Wood was a college teammate of Prince Shembo?
Both Charlie Weis recruits.

Surprise. Clark County Child Protective Services had a report in December, 2018.

Not! I dealt with that agency for years, worthless. I would report and report children who were abused. It was a useless waste of time, and probably endangered the children even more. Tragic. That girl could've been saved if anyone had actually done an investigation.

Both Charlie Weis recruits.
And Prince Shembo killed his GFs doggie:

Cops: Ex-Falcon Shembo considered fleeing country after dog’s death

Oh, and from that article on Shembo:

Shembo’s now-former girlfriend, model Denicia Williams, contacted police four days after the Yorkie’s April 15 death. According to the incident report, she had confronted Shembo and told him she’d been praying about what happened to her dog.

“What if I told you I kicked your dog?” Shembo asked, according to Williams.

And even more serious from his college buddy Shembo:

While in college at Notre Dame, Shembo was investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting a Saint Mary’s College freshman in his dorm room in 2010. The 19-year-old woman killed herself 10 days later by overdosing on an antidepressant.

Shembo was never charged in the case.

That makes me wonder if Wood was influenced by buddy Shembo? IMO could it be?

JMO, I think they were both bad news long before they arrived at college.
Weis certainly didn't recruit based on character.

Ex-pro football player accused of murder in death of 5-year-old girl

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas judge expressed shock Tuesday at the severity of injuries found on a 5-year-old girl whose death led to murder and felony child abuse charges against her 25-year-old mother and the mother’s former professional football player boyfriend.

“Once you’ve seen them, you can’t ever unsee them,” Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson said of the images as she rejected a bid by La’Rayah Davis’ mother, Amy Taylor, for release on bail pending a May 21 preliminary hearing of evidence or indictments in the case. The photos were not made public.

Court documents allege abuse by former NFL running back of 5-year-old in murder case

April 22, 2019

"...Wood told Taylor that he was having La’Rayah do sit-ups when the girl "smacked her head" as she leaned back, court documents say. The girl was unresponsive, and 911 was called.

Taylor also told police that La’Rayah had been complaining about having chest pains in the days leading up to her death, but she was never taken to the doctor.

Court documents say after further questioning, Taylor admitted to sitting on her daughter's chest and abdomen as a form of punishment. She then stated that Wood would poke the girl in the chest or abdomen to elicit a response from her.

Taylor said bruising may have also developed as a result of her grabbing La’Rayah by the arm when she misbehaved. When asked if the discipline may have accidentally caused more serious injury to La’Rayah, Taylor is quoted as saying, "It has to be yes," because La’Rayah is no longer here...."
