The Cruz's (Lynda, Nikolas) were a perfect victim family for a perpetrator to target. Here's why: Lynda was a widowed single mother who smoked a lot, was quite old to have Nikolas as her adopted child (her older age combined with her being a frequent smoker made it likely she'd die before reaching 70 years, which she did), had a sizable wealth left to her from her deceased husband, no other family they communicated with, and her child Nikolas was mentally unstable.
Based on understanding, and logic, it appears that Paulo David Gold and his now ex-girlfriend Rocxanne Deschamps committed cybercrimes and other crimes to victimize and terrorize Nikolas until he either committed suicide and/or committed a malicious crime that would put him behind bars in order that they could fraudulently obtain the inheritance meant for Nikolas and his younger brother. Please read the facts below and discuss, share your thoughts. Perpetrators look for easy targets, and then make them emotionally, financially, etc dependent on the perpetrator/s via tactics such as isolation, gaslighting (if you don't know, look the term up), creating financial and emotional dependence, etc etc.
Which perpetrators were closest to the Cruz's? Paulo David Gold (aka Paul Gold aka owner of Sport Surfaces) and Rocxanne Deschamps (Paul's ex-girlfriend whom he has a child in common with). Both Paul and Rocxanne have a long criminal history before Nikolas's school shooting.
These crimes include for Paul:
* smuggling his then girlfriend Rocxanne Deschamps across the Canadian border and then housing her in his home illegally for years. They took a vacation to Canada a few years back, and the Deschamps were not permitted to go back to USA because they're illegal aliens here. Rocxanne and her daughter scuba dived under a river at the border, Paul lied to the border patrol about his intentions at the border, and then picked up Rocxanne and her daughter illegally after they illegally crossed the river back into USA. That's a federal crime on all of them.

* cybercrimes of cybersquatting and phishing. See Reverse Whois Lookup - ViewDNS.info and phishtank.com. You can find there that Paul owns radissonhoteldenver.com and radissonhoteltampa.com. The Radisson Hotel owns a Federally Registered Trademark for their company name. Therefore, Paul is cybersquatting and infringing on a Federal Trademark. On phishtank.com, some of the sites he owns are flagged as phishing (tactic used by cybercriminals for identity theft, among other crimes).

Additionally, one has to wonder why Paul played violent gun-based shoot-em-up video games with Nikolas (Paul's claim per the news interviews) often though Paul remarked in the news that Nikolas was not the sort of person that should ever hold a gun.
Additionally, one has to wonder why Paul, after driving Nikolas to his mother's funeral, never saw Nikolas again. If a friend asked most anyone to drive them to their mother's funeral, it's reasonable to expect that the person would check in on their friend from time to time to given consolation and comfort.
Additionally, Paul told Nikolas he could work at his company. Why did that never transpire?
Additionally, no one except Paul and Rocxanne showed up to Nikolas's mother's funeral. Did she really have NO other friends? That seems unlikely for someone of her age (68). Most people have at least one friend... I strongly suspect that Paul Gold and Rocxanne Deschamps intentionally isolated the Cruz's (via cybercrimes like intercepting their calls-texts-emails-hogging their time up-social engineering, etc) to gain power/control over the Cruz's as their perpetrators.
* Additionally, Paul has a likely fraudulently obtained professional license in New Jersey as a Certified Public Adjuster. People who have a long criminal history, such as himself, do not get approval to sit for a professional license exam because a criminal is not a professional - they lack the ethics / morals to be.
* Additionally, Paul has applied for a professional license as a General Contractor in the State of FL. Given his long criminal history of contempt of court, failure to pay child support, smuggling illegal alien into USA and across many State borders, etc, it seems he would not meet the criteria for any professional license in the USA because he appears to be too unethical.
* A prior consultant seems to have nailed it right in their review and their description seems to describe a psychopath (see https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employee-Review-Sport-Surfaces-RVW24767787.htm) which states, "He is disrespectful, rude, unappreciative and impossible to satisfy. Terrible to work for. He is greedy and cheap. He knows nothing about his field. Nothing. His technicians know more about the work than he does. He has virtually no idea what is going on anywhere on any of the jobs at any given time. He has a memory span of about 4 seconds, if you can hold his attention for that long. Do not work directly for the owner of this company, because you will hate your life after a week or two when he decides to put you on a low salary because you're a "lousy worker" when really he's just insane."
* Just like Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, etc -- at a point, when there's so many people complaining about someone for the same kind of abuses perpetrated upon them, it becomes a court of public opinion, which does turn into justice officially through our court systems.
For Rocxanne, her crimes:

* Coming back to the USA after border control at the Canadian border a few years ago made it clear she is not to come to USA
* Living as an illegal alien in Paul's home for many years in Florida
* Having her children live with her in Florida as illegal aliens also
* Having her son attend school though they were both illegal aliens, costing USA citizens tax dollars based on their fraud
* Obtaining WIC (a welfare program intended for women with children in the USA) assistance to buy milk though her youngest child alive then was 16 years old and both of them were illegal aliens
* Failing to list herself as the guardian of Nikolas and his younger brother after their mother supposedly asked her to be their guardian in the event she died, she Rocxanne claims she did and then died the next day. Rocxanne only claimed herself as their guardian only after Nikolas did the school shooting. What - she didn't want to take responsibility until it was in her favor (him out of the picture so she could try to collect his inheritance. Given her long history of criminal activity, her words and intentions are not very credible, and neither are Paul's, for the same reasons.
If you're not that familiar with the damage cybercrimes, cyberstalking, harassing, etc can do to someone, please see the movie the Dark Web (documentary about fighting cybercrimes), and youtube search Tawny, cyberstalking. I truly believe that Paulo David Gold (aka Paul Gold, owner of Sport Surfaces), together with Rocxanne Deschamps, victimized and terrorized the Cruz family, especially Nikolas, to get Nikolas out of the picture via him committing suicide or a crime to put him behind bars, so they could collect his inheritance for themselves.
It makes sense to me that all the victims of Nikolas's school shooting, along with the State of FL and the USA ought to both sue and press criminal charges against Paulo David Gold and Rocxanne Deschamps for any of the ways they were involved. And we must make sure that cybercriminals get listed as Cyber Offenders (just like Sex Offenders) on a public list, and not be permitted around our children and teens, and not permitted on the internet.
