My friend goes every year. The last time was Feb for two weeks.

His grandchildren have come every year since they were toddlers and now one is going to go to college.

He spends a lot of money. They are picked up by a taxi and presented with several of their own bottles of liquor.

He said the woman who was beaten stayed in a resort that is not in a good area.

Since more of this has come out, I want to ask more but I feel he may not like questions about his dream vacation.

The resort he stays at has multiple restaurants and little places to get a snack or refreshing drink.

Europeans stay there.

I don't live there or visit the DR so I don't know if the resort Tammy stayed in was in a bad area. It may be.

Tammy said one of the men that attacked her had on a resort uniform.

The resort was an all-inclusive in Punta Cana called Majestic Elegance.

It is listed as a 5 star resort, adult only, rated first most popular resort in Playa Bavaro, with 10-20K + reviews on various websites. MOO

Oklahoma teens fall ill after graduation trip to Dominican Republic

About 40 high school graduates from the Edmond and Deer Creek area went on a senior trip on June 8 to the Dominican Republic and returned last week.

NBC talked with three of the teens who all ate at the same restaurant called "Zen" inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana. Within hours, they were sick, and some were hospitalized.

It was posted up thread by someone who’s daughter knows the grads that they were drinking. It’s why they plan a senior trip to DR because drinking age is 18.

Just like Aruba. :(

But Hand Foot and Mouth disease is something kids also get in the US. It is super contagious.
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease - Symptoms and causes

Yes, I'd bet money this child picked this up on the plane over.

How many of the affected persons had children along with them on their trip?

None that we know of. We are just wondering why it's only adults we are hearing about. Speculating that adds to the evidence it might be liquor related.

Ok so they there you have it. Everyone is lying. All 9 deaths were natural causes and all tests taken were negative. Who didn’t see that coming?

Dominican Republic's health ministry calls mysterious deaths 'fake news' as official lashes out in interview

From the link:

“'The testing results are all negative, everything – the food, the alcohol, the air – is normal, there is no alteration of the alcohol,' Suero said. 'With all the tourists we get every year, we make sure we comply with international standards for everything.'”

I find that hard to believe and I think the alcohol bit will come back to bite him. The info in the article about the FBI makes it sound like test results are not all back yet.

The comment from the DR official about the death of a newlywed COUPLE (they both died) are interesting. One died from medical issues and the other a day later from the shock., he says. Could happen, I suppose, but I bet they both were drinking from the mini-bar. That's my hunch.

I actually hope this is all hysteria and DR recovers easily and everyone has a great time. But, I'm not trusting the booze at this point.

Is Tainted Alcohol to Blame for Deaths and Sickness in the Dominican Republic? A Doctor Weighs In

Three of the victims drank from their hotel minibars before falling ill

In the past year, according to the U.S. State Department, at least eight American tourists have died after falling ill at Dominican Republic resorts — and dozens more have gotten sick.
The FBI and CDC have confirmed it is investigating the deaths of at least six of the tourists who have died since the summer of 2018. Some of them passed away in what appear to be bizarre — and similar — circumstances. The agencies are not yet releasing further details about the investigations.

“It’s definitely very strange,” Reynold A. Panettieri Jr., a physician at Rutgers who specializes in toxicology, tells PEOPLE. “Healthy people don’t just die. And the couple dying at the same time certainly tips us off that something is very wrong.”
[...]
Additionally, authorities are investigating the deaths of two Americans at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana. David Harrison, 45, died in July 2018. Robert Bell Wallace, 67, died last April.
“This will be a long investigation,” Panettieri tells PEOPLE. “But they’ll figure it out.”

Poisonous fish cause of Dutch newlyweds’ death in Dominican Republic I came across this regarding DR deaths. In 2016 , a honeymooning Dutch couple, 28 and 31, both died. They attributed it to ciguatera poisoning, which is a neurotoxin found in some reef fish. I live in Hawaii, and my husband and I both had reef fish poisoning, me for 6 months and my husband for a year. We had unknowingly eaten the most toxic of all reef fish known to sometimes carry ciguatera. We became experts on it! I feel positive that ciguatera would not kill them overnight or the next day. This case too should be revisited. Poisonous fish cause of Dutch newlyweds’ death in Dominican Republic

Airbnb is the worst. I cannot imagine how some places get great reviews. I have seen great reviews for places I would not set foot in

A British couple who were struck down while visiting the Dominican Republic resort where nine tourists died have called for authorities to test the 'potentially poisonous' alcohol they bought home from their trip as gifts.

Mother-of-three Emma, 36, told the Mirror: 'The first thing we noticed that was strange was the alcohol from the main hotel bar.

'It just didn't taste like alcohol at all. It just tasted weird. I said at the time that they had put fake alcohol in it. It tasted a bit chemically.'

Bride dies after return from Dominican Republic honeymoon

A Louisana bride who went on her honeymoon to the Dominican Republic mysteriously died less than a week after she returned.

Susan Simoneaux of Luling died Tuesday in a local hospital after traveling to Punta Cana, a resort town where several Americans have died and dozens more have fallen ill.

Her cause of death hasn’t been determined, but the newlywed’s symptoms were strikingly similar to three tourists who died last month while visiting the beach oasis.

I’ve had owners contact me personally after I’ve stayed in their property and ask for an excellent review in exchange for a discount next time. I don’t trust the reviews.
