I can’t help but feel second hand embarrassment for the wife when people comment about how gross he is and how Carolyn is lightyears out of his league. His wife (imo at least) is of equal attraction as Carolyn, and is educated.

I think/thought she was talking about the anthropology connection; I did the same, it was news to me.

Thanks a bunch for the map, @Seattle1 ! It helps to paint more of the picture for me. It's not a long slog at all -- unless it's heavily traveled during lunchtime, but anything under three miles still shouldn't take that long. Great info -- I love maps!

Thank you for posting this. I just logged in to see if there was any news articles in regard to today’s hearing.

According to this article, Carolyn went home frequently for lunch so he probably knew her routine. It’s scary to think he was at the complex prior to murdering her. It also appears that the police have additional evidence.

Oh my goodness. Not a lot of info but a few hints that go back to the beginning of this case and things we wondered about.

Thanks to locals we were told where the laundry room, pools, parking lots, etc were. Where Carolyn lived, etc.

Now she went home for lunch all of the time, very different from early information.

I hope he rots. Evil. Like most of them are.

Being the ex-wife of a cheater (not murderer), I'm thinking about his wife with this new child and how she has to go on with the rest of her life. I wonder if she had seen any signs and is remembering the red flags now. She has my sincere sympathy.

Holy smokes—is it just me or is that a really light sentence for brutal murder?! He’d be out in time to celebrate his 60th birthday, while Carolyn was denied the chance to even make it to her 27th.

I’m honestly aghast at this deal. I hate to even suggest it, but do you think it’s possible KS’s defense team has presented any “mitigating factors” that might have influenced the proposed duration of the prison term (i.e., they used to be romantically involved and she just broke up with him and he killed her in a fit of passion)? Or is 30 years/no parole about right for premeditated murder?

At a pre-indictment conference in Superior Court in Middlesex County, Assistant Prosecutor Tzvi Dolinger said detectives recently obtained Google location records that show Saal was at Byington’s Hunters Glen Drive apartment complex in the days leading up to her death.

Dolinger also said that detectives took a statement from one of Byington’s neighbors that identified Saal as being in the complex, specifically near the communal laundry room, weeks before the killing.

This “establishes what, at this point, seems to be a stalking of the victim,” Dolinger said.

The investigation, Dolinger said, is “playing catch up” after detectives received DNA evidence on Aug. 19 — two months after police discovered Byington in her apartment with multiple stab wounds — that pointed towards Saal as the accused killer.

Saal’s attorney, Michael Roberts, maintains his client’s innocence but declined to comment on the stalking allegation after the hearing.

At Monday’s court hearing, Dolinger said the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has offered a plea deal that would have Saal admit to one count of murder in exchange for 30 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

Roberts, Saal’s attorney, hasn’t accepted the offer, and the case will go before a grand jury if there’s no resolution before that.

Saal is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 24.

PLAINSBORO TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man accused of murdering his co-worker during her lunch break earlier this year appears to have been stalking her in the days and weeks leading up to the killing.

Detectives have obtained images via Google Earth that show 30-year-old Kenneth C. Saal, of Lindenwold, was at Carolyn Byington's apartment complex in the days before she was killed, nj.com reports. One of her neighbors also told detectives he was in the complex weeks before the murder.

An assistant prosecutor said during a pre-indictment conference on Monday that this amounts to stalking, according to the report. His attorney maintains his innocence, but didn't comment on the stalking allegations.
