Airconditioning???
It has been mild here this spring. I doubt that many people staying in their own homes right now have their a/c running. I'm in NYC and it's actually a bit chilly today, for example. We've really only had a couple of warm days during lockdown, and even then, it was in the 70s for a few hours.

Yes, I know some people run the a/c even in mild weather. But based on personal observation, I don't think a/c explains the graph today showing most new cases are from people staying home. My guess only.

Reopened restaurant told workers: Don't wear face masks — or don't work

Texas restaurants that reopened at partial capacity last week have a choice to make: Whether or not their employees should wear masks during the coronavirus pandemic.

One restaurant company landed on a decision that has some employees weighing their safety versus their jobs.

No face masks or face coverings of any kind.
...

Maybe they did a survey like the one I got recently from the local restuarant association asking if people would eat in a restaurant where the servers and employees were wearing masks. I know I won't. I wonder if they got similar feedback.

If you are asymptomatic does that mean you can spread it? I thought you had to have symptoms to spread it like a cough for instance. I am getting confused with all these different terms.

BBM. No. It is also spread by breathing or talking. You do NOT have to have a cough or fever to spread it. You can be contagious without symptoms (asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic). Also, I have read studies in this thread showing people may be MOST contagious a couple days before symptoms. I will try to find links for this for you. IMO this is why it spreads quickly in places like nursing homes and meat packing plants. Those places were likely checking their employee temps everyday or telling people to stay home if they got a cough or fever, but if they are contagious 2 days before they get a fever then the practice of checking temps is useless. By the time someone has a fever they have likely already infected others on the previous days they worked. MOO.

Coronavirus could be spread 'just by talking and breathing', Harvard doc warns

This helped me understand respiratory droplets we exhale when we talk:

“Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at Columbia’s Mailman School, provided more vivid descriptions for my mental tableau. “Droplets are not necessarily huge, like globs. We release respiratory droplets when we speak.”

When you go outside and it’s really cold out and you see your breath fog — that’s respiratory droplets,” she said.”

Wow, thank you for posting this. It’s exactly what I’ve been trying to express but not so eloquently.

“I find it outrageous and out of touch that during this national pandemic, a judge, in a county that actually released hardened criminals for fear of contracting COVID-19, would jail a mother for operating her hair salon in an attempt to put food on her family’s table,” Paxton said in his release.

“The trial judge did not need to lock up Shelley Luther. His order is a shameful abuse of judicial discretion, which seems like another political stunt in Dallas. He should release Ms. Luther immediately,” the attorney added.

I never even thought about juries - yes, things will have to change, at least for awhile.

And don't trials have to be open to the public? I know attendance can be limited, but we can't have completely closed-door trials, right? Maybe more video access or even just audio?

Wow - we're in for so many changes.

i can imagine trials not being open
to the public for awhile but think about how are they
even going to be able to pick a jury?

Wow :( right there in black in white. The almighty dolla trumps personal/ public safety. Gross.

There you go this will be a good restaurant to patronize for those that do not like to wear face masks. Perhaps, some restaurant will have a face mask and a non face mask section.

Why would anyone rather eat in a restaurant PERIOD? No idea of the health of those who made the food or the restaurant staff.

Some people count sheep when they can’t fall asleep. I count counties, New York state counties. There are 62 — though, to be honest, I couldn’t name all 62 even if I were wide awake.

But there’s a video going viral that compresses all of the county names into a three-minute-40-second parody. It’s one of the best, and certainly most cheerful, of the many videos prompted by our state-wide quarantine.

Titled “KoCuomo,” the video rewrites the Beach Boys’ “Kokomo” into a musical tribute to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The video shows life dragging in the house – dishes pile up, showers are optional. But when Cuomo comes on for his daily news briefing, everyone is rapt and riveted, “in love with words of our take-charge guv.”

Throughout the video, county names pop up. (Quick quiz: name 10). “You should have seen my spreadsheet,” Suzanne said, explaining how she kept track. In the end, though, she united all the New York counties, as different and sometimes at odds as they are. In these troubled times, that’s remarkable. Sixty-two counties. One state. It adds up.

A hopefully relatable, parody video of "Kokomo" by The Beach Boys, to pay tribute to our favorite NY Governor... we had the time. Scroll down for the lyrics!

This is why you could not pay me to eat in a restaurant. Air conditioning system as a vector for Coronavirus spread. This has huge implications for office buildings, hotels, restaurants, casinos, gyms, bars...

Just based on myself and my personal contacts, I know there are lots of people who can't wait to go back to eating in restuarants. I'm one of them. One of my bff's in Texas texted me a pic of her eating out last night at her fave Mexican place for cinco de mayo. To each their own. jmo

May 11 at 7 pm

Long Island music icons Billy Joel and Mariah Carey will be among the stars taking part in "Rise Up New York!," an hourlong telethon on May 11 at 7 p.m. to benefit front-line workers and others in our area impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hosted by Tina Fey, the virtual fundraiser will air on all local commercial TV stations including WLNY, as well as nationally on CNBC, and on News 12, Spectrum News NY1 and the radio networks iHeartMedia, Entercom and SiriusXM.

Produced by iHeart and the New York charitable organization Robin Hood, the event aims to raise funds for "relief and recovery efforts, deployed directly to the organizations on the frontlines that serve the city's most vulnerable during the current crisis and its aftermath," the 32-year-old charity said Monday.

Bon Jovi, Bette Midler, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Chris Rock and Sting also are scheduled to appear. Other stars participating include Syosset-raised Idina Menzel, former Brookville resident Jennifer Lopez, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Robert De Niro, Jimmy Fallon, Sutton Foster, Jake Gyllenhaal, Spike Lee, Julianne Moore, Trevor Noah, Barbra Streisand and others. Former NFL Giants Eli Manning, Phil Simms, Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck are also scheduled to appear.

"With the help of special guests, we're aiming to shine a light on the strength of our city and raise $100 million for frontline organizations serving NYC," the Robin Hood organization said, adding that 100% of donations "will provide support for food, shelter, cash assistance, health and mental health, legal services, education and more — helping fellow New Yorkers rebuild their lives as the city moves towards recovery and beyond."

If it is air conditioning, we’re screwed in Florida. It has been unseasonably hot, didn’t really have a spring this year with the exception of a few days....the A/C has been on for a while.
If you're living in Florida then by default you're screwed. I filed an unemployment claim in mid March, and I'm still waiting for a check.
