It was the height of lockdown and police were prowling around and asking people why they were out. They were unusual times. Friends were stopped and asked were they in the same bubble. He was a serving Police officer with a warrant card.
I also wonder if the mystery of the hire car could be explained by that trick? Could he have thought it would look more like an official vehicle than his family car?
