Officers from Thames Valley Police investigating an unexplained death near Yarnton, Oxfordshire, are today releasing CCTV images of a woman believed to be that of the person who was located in Cresswell Lake between the A40 and A34.

At just before 8.30pm last Monday (16/8), officers were called to reports of a body being located in Cresswell Lake.

Very sadly, the body of a woman was recovered from the water.

The woman has still yet to be identified and a post-mortem examination conducted on Friday (20/8) has been inconclusive as to the cause of her death.

Detective Inspector Tracey Benham, based at Banbury police station, said: “We are still treating the death of the woman as unexplained, but as yet, we have been unable to ascertain her identity.

“Despite extensive investigations, we have exhausted lines of enquiry as to identifying the woman, and so we are taking the decision to release these CCTV images, captured on 8 August, as we have ascertained that this is very sadly the woman who was located in the water.

“We have had no missing person reports in the Thames Valley of a woman matching the description, which is a female with shoulder length dark hair.

“She is a light skinned female of slim to medium build and approximately 5ft 6ins tall aged approximately in her mid-twenties.

“She was wearing an olive green Barbour jacket, a burnt orange jumper and orange/red and cream striped long-sleeved t-shirt and blue jeans.

“We are continuing to conduct enquiries to try and ascertain her identity and contact next of kin.

“I would ask anybody with any information, no matter how insignificant you believe this may be, to contact 101, or make a report online quoting incident reference 2048 (16/8).

“This is a tragic incident and we are determined to find out who the deceased person is and are leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to identify her and notify her next of kin.

“I would again ask anybody who was aware of a woman matching the description given in the area over the last few weeks, or knows the identity of the woman seen in this CCTV image, to please get in touch.

“We have had reports of a woman who was in the area knocking on doors and asking for a shower, and we believe that this may have been this person.

“Any information that you may have that could assist this investigation will be gratefully received and will hopefully allow us to locate the woman's family and offer the support that they will need following this tragic incident."

It looks a bit like the woman who has been missing since July. Her photo came up again on one of the missing sites just in last days again. Am going through trying to find. The pic was of her sitting in a car maybe, looking upwards.

Edit: This was who I was thinking of, but seems found.

She's dressed very well, although not entirely appropriate for the weather in a scarf and hat in August. I wonder if she was recently homeless or recently arrived in the country from somewhere warmer?
I was thinking along these lines too. She looks quite stylish and well turned out but it's unusual for someone from the UK to be wearing a woolly hat and scarf in August. Perhaps she recently arrived in the UK from a warmer country? It would be interesting to know if the person knocking on doors had an accent.

Really sad that she was so young and doesn't appear to have been reported missing by anyone yet.

I'm in the North West of England, and the other day I found myself wearing a t-shirt, a long-sleeved flannel, a body warmer, a fleece, and a hooded coat it was so cold. Maybe she was just temperature-sensitive, much like myself.

It seems that original appeal on police fb page is now gone... No updates yet in any media.

Officers investigating the unexplained death of a woman who was found in Cresswell Lake near Yarnton on Monday 16th August have now successfully identified her.

Earlier this week, we posted an appeal for information which could help us identify the woman who had been found. Thanks to information from members of the public, she has now been identified.

At this time, we are not in a position to publicly release her name or any other details about her as we are in the process of informing her next of kin.

We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal, and who has come forward with information in recent days. As such we are no longer appealing for information related to this.
