I think it's reasonable to attribute the formal name of and your relationship to the way BL did during a police encounter.
I don't think either Gabby or BL was accustomed to speaking to police even on a mildly regularly basis. This wasn't a average speeding ticket. They knew that. They knew they got pulled over mid fight for erratic driving. They also knew they were just physically fighting at the last stop. The encounter escalated quickly in my opinion. Meaning people had to get out cars, LEO was wanting real explanations, multiple back units arrived.
I think it's explained in BL wanting to be respectful to LEO and the obvious not get in trouble. So he went into formal mode.
It could have been LEO was men & he was making his status known. Very possible.

I think a large portion of the original reason for the question is because, as per Gabby's mother, Brian and Gabby had dialed back their relationship and were no longer fiance/es; which means he might have been presumptuous.

Former homicide detective believes human remains found in Brian Laundrie hunt may not be intact

“A former homicide detective tells FOX News that he does not believe the unidentified human remains found during the search for Brian Laundrie were likely to be intact because of the continued use of cadaver dogs. "That leads me to believe that the body itself may not have been completely intact, and they were using cadaver dogs to find perhaps [additional] body parts."

questions!!

was he eaten or did someone chop him up?

Backpack to hide a gun? Dry bag to preserve his precious artwork...or possibly a note? jmo
Why would you need a backpack to hide a gun if you're going to shoot yourself with it. By then you would be dead how can you hide it back into the backpack. But with the crazy conspiracy theories I'm seeing they would need to get the gator DNA to see which gator slipped the gun back into the bag and zipped it up after he shot and killed himself. MOO

SB has a strong background in criminal law. He also has known family for a long time. Case was clearly federal law with Gabby missing in Wyoming. So, an attorney allowed to practice in fed court would have to have been retained anyways. Laundries better off saving money while they could
Yes.
I misjudged that whole situation.

It'll be interesting to find out why they were so focused on Carlton rather than where his car had been found. Makes me wonder if he was caught on a trail cam?
I saw the NPPD communications guy (I forget his name) talking about how they were limited in being able to surveil BL before he was charged & he said something like, "he goes for a hike, & never comes back out..." & I just had a distinct impression that they either had him tailed, or that that he was caught on cameras. From other things he's said in interviews, I don't think they would have been relying only on the parents' word for that information. I think they somehow knew he went in & stayed there. JMO

The quoted portion said the co-worker said he had a "terrible temper." That's not what the article said the co-worker said. But to switch to Moab, we also had a witness who saw GP hit BL.
JMO
Sorry, I did not understand.
It has always puzzled me that some (Not at you) people find it impossible to believe that someone can at home and in private be completely opposite of the person they portray in public or with friends. They wear a mask. Jmo

I notice some similarities between BL and Fotis Dulos (CT). Both had a nasty temper behind closed doors and sadly tried to flip the script onto their victims. Both felt "convicted in the court of public opinion", and many people thought that both were too arrogant/cocky to be a threat to their own safety. As reality set in it seems they both took the cowardly way out. I bring this up because FD left behind a letter on notebook paper and only committed suicide once he felt some real pressure. Is it possible that BL went camping, his parents called to tell him the AW news and that is when BL decided to end his life?

I would not be surprised if a possible BL note followed the same format as FD's..

1) I am totally innocent of all charges!
2) By the way, my (parents/girlfriend/attorney friend/sister etc) are also 100% innocent, please free them of any accusations
3) one liner afterthought: tell (my kids, my parents, my family etc) I love them
4) recap on "me vs the world"/court of public opinion mentality.

Here is the FD note as a reminder or if you have never read it before.

Everything about this post is a BINGO!

I posted about Fotis Dulos in an earlier thread how LE keeps schit close to the vest like;
school bus cameras & a bike... We had no clue until we read the AW affidavit.

I ended with:
"Fotis wasn't about to spend another day... another hour in prison. We had no clue."

Sadly, we did.

The Petitos were able to find Gabby and retrieve her remains and I am grateful & happy for that however, for five innocent lil ones... that's not the case.

His backpack and the dry bag, etc. If you are planning to suicide, why would you carry that stuff with you?

If we knew what was inside the bags, we'd be able to answer that better. All we have is the notebook, so far.
The notebook was taken for
-comfort (drawing seems to give him comfort & pleasure) ?
- there might be memories in that book too?
- to memorialise his suicide? ( or simply a confession or goodbye letter)

caveat that, on the day that he went into the Creek, we can't know if suicide was his explicit goal or whether he viewed it as an option or.....it simply got too much for him?

If we find out there was a gun or meds in that bag, we'd have a better idea.
( Equally if bag contents included phone, radio etc! Whole different ball-game)

I was the person who originally theorized the backpack may have been on the remains, but someone replied to me pointing out that police showed the Ls a picture of the backpack so they could identify it, and they probably would not have done this if the backpack were attached to remains. So I think my original theory can be scrapped! JMO

The thing is, I can imagine the backpack becoming detached from the remains because of water movement/current in the water if both the body and the backpack were in the water, or, as the body decomposed and was scavenged by animals, probably was dragged away by animals (or just the remains were strewn). JMO.

Unless he went to the AT and then came back in time to die a couple of weeks ago (so as to have skeletal remains), BL has been in that preserve since Sept 13. I find this the most likely scenario. He went there to kill himself and did. Time of death will be difficult to establish, but they'll make an estimate. That dry bag may provide better evidence as to where he was for a month, through its dust, pollen, mold and mildew.

DNA analysis will allow identification of BL even if remains are skeletal. Just one tooth is enough. The DNA in teeth lasts a long time. DNA in the bones can be reconstructed (which is how we're getting more Neanderthal DNA, even though the bones are 30,000 years old). If the skull is around, it will be immediately obvious to any biological anthropologist if it's BL, IMO, as he had some distinctive features and we get used to looking at skulls and seeing faces instead - but naturally that has to be backed up by other analysis.

Thank you @10ofRods. This is the information we have needed. I also believe he killed himself just after he disappeared.

MOO.

Not to mention, isn't the practice of yoga supposed to de-stress you and lower your blood pressure?!?

IMO, the more serious Brian pretended to be about yoga, the more frivolous he seems and the sillier these assertions are, in much the same way that we have said ad nauseam about Brian's sanctimonious self-righteous attitude towards water bottles.

IMO, he was all about the outward show. For Brian, it's all about "appearing as if" he is woker-than-thou, so that he appears to be "A Good Person" to the people watching him whom he thinks (wrongly) care about his opinions (you'd better believe, a lot of other environmentalists would be greedily reaching out for a plastic water bottle in the desert if it came proffered by the little red man with a pitchfork himself, because they have common sense).
Yoga teacher of 20+ years here……and in that time the westernisation/commercialisation means that what most people think of as yoga today is physical poses. Yoga in all ancient texts and when shared in a way that is beneficial to mental well-being is much more mind centric. In fact, the first statements made in yoga’s equivalent of the bible states. “Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind”
Further, yoga has its own 10 commandments known as Yama and Niyama. The very first – and often thought of as the most important – Yama, is ‘Ahimsa’, which means ‘Non-violence’ or ‘non-harming’. (‘Himsa’ = ‘hurt’ and ‘a’ = ‘not’) In this sense, we’re talking about non-violence in all aspects of life.

At its root, yoga is a practice of concentration + discipline of the mind. You can spend a lifetime going to ‘yoga studios’ and exert immense effort in the poses and NEVER ‘do yoga’

No.. no one chopped him up.
imo

How does this assurance work if the FBI is running around, guns drawn, bashing into random BL-lookalike North Carolina fishing locales' rooms asking that they shave their beards?

I think it's a bit of a stretch assuming that the branch of law enforcement who were known to not surveil him in his home, somehow had irrefutable camera footage to show he walked into a preserve and never walked out.

If they picked up a gun case then FBI will say BL is armed and dangerous. Warn the public not to engage, don't get close or try getting photos of him. I'm saying people made up the dad reporting a gun missing and also made up that SB said brian left the house with the gun. I'm sick of that misinformation spreading. JMO
Haven't heard those rumors about dad and SB...they likely came from a rumor mill....Currently, there is no evidence that BL had a gun. He may or may not have, we'll just have to stay tuned particularly to COD. jmo
