IL - Damari Perry 6, murdered by mom & brother, fnd in abandoned house, Chicago, 7 Jan 2022 *ARREST*
2/2/22 Update: Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office on Wednesday filed a 19-count indictment against his mother & brother, charging both with first-degree murder in the child’s death. Perry was indicted 2/2/22 (with Jannie) by a Lake County Grand Jury on eight counts of murder & additional counts of: aggravated battery of a child, dismembering a human body, conspiracy, aggravated domestic battery, concealment of a homicidal death, endangering the life or health of a child, abuse of a corpse & each was also charged with obstructing justice. The grand jury found evidence that the murder was “exceptionally brutal & heinous,” which allows prosecutors to seek natural-life sentences on the murder charges for each of the defendants. The charge of dismembering a human body arose from evidence that the family burned Damari’s remains after his death. Prosecutors indicated that they may seek up to 60 years in prison for the dismembering charge alone. Jannie & Jeremiah Perry are set to appear in court on 2/7/22 to be arraigned on the charges. Chief of Felony Review Steve Scheller & Chief of Juvenile Justice Karen Levi as well as Assistant States Attorney Russell Caskey have been assigned to prosecute the case. Jannie Perry eight counts of murder & additional counts of: aggravated battery of a child, dismembering a human body, conspiracy, aggravated domestic battery, concealment of a homicidal death, endangering the life or health of a child, abuse of a corpse & each was also charged with obstructing justice. Also faces one count of failure to report the death or disappearance of a child under 13 years old.
2/7/22 Update: Janine Perry's arraignment was scheduled for Monday morning, but the hearing has been pushed to Wednesday, 2/9/22.
*Jeremiah R. Perry (20) "brother" – Status hearing on 2/8/22.
*Juvenile (16) "brother" arrested (1/7/22) who is also believed to be responsible for his death, faces charges in Lake County’s Juvenile Court in Waukegan. Has not been named.
