2009.04.23 Baez WESH Interview

Did anyone watch Baez talk about the odor in Casey's car? He challenges the air sample tests as unproven science which I understand. I don't agree, but I understand his strategy as a defense attorney.

But then he says the smell of human decomp is comparable to rotten potatoes. No, no, no. I can't believe those two smells are even close. I once had a horrible smell in my kitchen and found a forgotten bag of potatoes in the pantry. Yes, it smelled bad. I once had a rat die in my attic and that smell was much worse and very different than the rotten potatoes. I have never smelled human decomp but I would surmise the decomposing rat smelled closer to human than the decomposing potato.

That just doesn't make any sense at all. Even if there WERE rotten potatoes in the trunk of KC's car, it still makes no sense at all. What a maroon...

What JB actually said is that he recently read an article on Arpad Vass (Oak Ridge Laboratory) where he (Vass) describes human decomp. smelling like a rotten potato.

As long as there is even one hair of Caylee's with the death band found in the trunk of KC's car, I don't see any relevance to the other hairs. Wasn't the stain in the trunk also found to be human decomposition?

He sure likes to think he is one hot potato. Poor guy. I wonder who is pumping him up.

Who's pumping him up? She's sitting in solitary confinement in the Orange County Jail, eating, sleeping, lounging. Waiting for the day she can walk free and become an attorney like what's his name.

thank you for all these :)
I'd love to see a link that FOLLOWS THE MONEY.
do we have a thread on that issue?
I did read somewhere that caylees Dad is an older man Rich
and hooked to the drug industry. I do not know if I can bring a link here.
But they seem to be afraid to mention his name. hmmm.
and GA (Mr. LE) would take money from such a man???? :waitasec:

Thanks for finding the article. It's interesting. I still think the dead animal smelled worse than the rotten potatoes. But, I bet I found the potatoes before they reached their full potential of smelliness. Does any brave sleuther want to do an experiment and find out just how bad rotten potatoes get? My family already thinks I'm crazy for being so obsessed with this case. I can't imagine what they would say if I told them I want to see if I can get potatoes to smell like a decomposing body.

No word on the fries, but the chemical signature of the odor will be the tell, not what our noses can pick up. IMO

True, but isn't that analysis what Baez is calling junk science? The Body Farm data he says is unproven science is what he will be arguing. So many people said the car smelled like human decomp that I think a jury will need some other explanation from Baez. They will think if not human than what? Just thinking that is where the potato is going to come in, especially since Vass himself said it in the article you so kindly found.

I find it interesting that JB says, "They don't know how Caylee passed away" and "They don't know when Caylee passed away" and "They don't know who did it". Why wouldn't he say, "We don't know..."

To me, this implies that JB does know the answers to these questions.

Odor analysis isn't junk science, but whether a body can leave a unique signature in a "contaminated" environment is the new territory. Vass is studying it, it has potential. In combination with LIBS, it is to me more compelling. The LIBS was the light-analysis on the trunk stain, and was done in addition to the air testing. It isn't junk science either. The LIBS revealed probable decomp, but lacking flouride, an expected component. The tester suggested this was due to Caylee's age and limited exposure to flouride. This needs further exploration.

I'm not a chemist, but from what I do understand, the evidence is pretty compelling. I'd like to know more.

I totally agree with you. Baez is the one who is trying to debunk it. I thought he was even quoted calling it "junk science." I could be wrong, I'll try to find it. I think the evidence is compelling too and can't wait for the trial. Looking forward to hearing from the experts and seeing the prosecution pull the whole thing together.

Having a Follow the Money thread would be a dream come true for me. The finances are a huge part of this case, and it seems all of the players have questionable connections to each other.
