well when my daughter and her dad picked up tina a couple of months ago and took her to her home....my daughter called me on the way home...and said "mom, this lady has no business with this baby" i just called daughter and asked how all this happened (refresh my memory) my daughter and her dad was at her sisters house in chipley...and a knock came at the door...she said tina stated she was suppose to be a parenting classes across the street...but she had the wrong day...asked could they take her home...daughter and dad agreed...and daughter called to say that she was really worried about this lady...she also stated at that time...this girl walks the streets of chipley alot...let's pray people...

Looking at this from another perspective - it appears that DCF required the parents to take parenting classes AND Tina actually attempted to attend these classes. I, personally, think that is HUGE in Tina's FAVOR.

As a CASA, I have only seen ONE, count it, one time where a parent actually followed through and attended parenting classes. And the parents did not have mental challenges as an excuse. So to me, this speaks volumes.

I don't know what else your daughter might have seen, so I am not speaking to that... only to Tina's efforts to attend the classes.

Here is the letter for those who haven't seen it yet:

The following letter was provided by Florida Department of Children and Families:

"Mr Governor Crist,

I want to tell you something, there is four people living together. They
are not working nor are they doing any kind of community serves. But they are drawing food stamps. They take there food stamps and trade them for drugs.

Tina Merter was pregnant when she meet James Russell Dedrick, jr
dob:Oct 23, 1978, he is 31 yrs old and has never had a job. So James R
Dedrick, jr put his name on Tina Merters baby birth certificate. So now he can get a check, food stamps, medicare.

Now there are Micheal, Erica, Tina Merter & James R Dedrick, jr living all together in a house on 537 5th St, Chipley Florida 32428.

They are all drowing food stamps and not woking or
doing community service. That Is so wrong in alot of wasys.

Tina Meter's baby is being aboused. I have seen James R Dedrick, jr pick that baby up and shake her, just becouse the baby crys and that gets on his nerves.

Micheal & Erica also have shoke that baby too. They smoke ciggerets and drugs with the baby in the same room. THAT CHILD NEEDS HELP & NO ONE IS HELPING HER.

Please Help this child she is mentaly challenged. It is not right that these
people are selling their food stamps for drugs.

My husband works 58 hrs a week for us to live and it makes me very angry to see these people sitting on their back sides and draining the system that is put in place for the needy, Not the lazy.

Please do something about this unjustice and Please
Please save that child."

What's the source of the info that Erica is a young child? In the letter, SB says both Michael and Erica "have shoke that baby too. They smoke ciggerets and drugs with the baby in the same room." Erica must be awfully precocious (in all the wrong ways) if she's a "young child".

And I don't see any need to asterisk her name. I think when it was first mentioned here on WS, it was from a private source and not out in the media yet. But the name is in SB's letter, which has been provided to the media by DCF.

And I just want to go on the record and say I'm sorry for being so suspicious of the mother. I feel terrible

Does that mean that Chipley didn't contact them the second they learned her identity? Not even as a consult on their own case? Sheesh.

I stated to sheriffs office this morning in Beaufort SC that I just assumed that LE in Chipley would have done a criminal background check on the babysitter or anyone else who may have been in close contact with Shannon, but it was neither confirmed or denied if they had already been contacted by LE in Chipley.
Also I would consider myself to be the Great Aunt to any neices and nephews children on my side or husbands side of the family.
