Laytonian,
Yes, I get that he was selling ads etc. for Matchbin. But, it's kind of weird that Matchbin would make him pay for those ads with his own cc. Unless they had him doing independent contracting.

But, the recurring charges don't make sense. Steven was frugal, if he was let go from Matchbin in May of 2009, why would he not have cancelled the recurring payment ? Very interesting on several fronts ... Also, if he was doing independent contracting at Matchbin, it's kind of hard to understand why they let him go so quickly. Because they were not paying him ; he had to make sales before he got any money. It was no skin off their nose, they could only gain from him. If he made sales for them, that was to their benefit, and if he didn't, it didn't cost them a dime. Are we positive those recurring cc charges are for Matchbin ?

It would surely tell us the type of employment he was seeking and where!

Either the article got it wrong or the family has omitted important information when dealing with WS. I realize they have no obligation to say anything to us, but with all the countless hours WS people have spent reading the posts, links, watching videos, and speculating, you mean to tell me he had actual job applications in his car?

Now I have never believed he went there for work. However, a pile of job applications could provide some reason why he was wandering around what seemed to be aimlessly. If in fact he applied for jobs, then they would know who those employers are and they should have been contacted.

Maybe the family lied to the paper to make it look like poor Steven was actually looking for work. In any event, this Koecher/LDS clan has worn out my patience between not searching the hard drive (or doing it and not telling us), not pressing GW (or doing it and not telling us), either planting job applications in the car or they were there and not telling us.

There are some threads here where the families are really looking for answers and help. The Koechers are not one of them.

On the godaddy cc annual charge. I can maybe shed some light. I had an account in 2006 for a very short time. I tried to cancel it and they assured me it was taken care of, but when the year was up, my cc was charged the annual fee again even though my site was taken down. It was a real pain working with them.. So possibly he did cancel it and had the same luck I did?? Just an opinion or possibility..

Yay! I had to figure this out, and was hoping someone would let me play Ms Wizard.

Dec 13th is only about a week before the winter solstice, when the earth's axis is tilted further away from the sun than any other time. The sun is about as far south on its axis as it will get, and the shadows you see are pointing "northy" appropriately.

Oh yes! You are right, of course. 'Twas the season of perpetual long shadows even at high noon.

If feel like we have been given onions seeds an ask to produce a fruitful apple tree................

This is having "scenarios" of a Susan Powell connection again....far "stretched".

It was said Josh bought a huge roll of "shrink wrap" and a blow torch prior to Susan going missing. (Rumors only)

Did the personnel at IHOP tell Fairy about the plastic gloves and saran wrap?? Fairy1??

Somehow this obscurely made it onto the USAtoday site, maybe if we all go and recommend the article, we can get some attention to it?

Shrinkwrap and a blow torch?
You use a hairdryer (or even an industrial style blow dryer) with shrinkwrap. A blow torch would just catch it on fire.

I could get the same effect by strapping a body on a sled ("I'm taking the boys sledding") and then wrapping the entire thing with that industrial sized Saran Wrap that I bought at Costco.

I'm still trying to figure out how that business expense got charged to his personal credit card. But who knows how this Utah "business opportunity" works.

That's who he says he was working for at the time.

The family says the charges are "linked to companies the family knew of in the Bountiful area that Steven had advertised with."

The odd thing is the phrase "had advertised WITH", rather than the expected "companies who had purchased advertising through Steven".

I am sooooo glad someone finally mentioned loan sharks! I have thought this from the beginning but figured it had for sure been mentioned and I must have missed it somewhere. I have thought so many times that it was a very logical explanation, though I still have very strong suspicions of GW.. Maybe they go together! I don't know, this whole thing drives me crazy but I think he is a perfect candidate for a loan shark, has anyone checked to see if GW is involved in this kind of stuff?? Who knows... :banghead:

Actually....I mentioned payday lenders back on Jan 27th, but I didn't get much response ;)

Maybe you have to call them "loan sharks" to get attention here...but you're not going to find a "loan shark" in Utah, because they've already been legalized as payday loan stores.

It shouldn't be hard for the family or LE to check the payday loan companies in Utah, to see if he had an account. (It'd take an attorney and a subpoena.)

I'm also very disappointed to find out that there were actual JOB APPLICATIONS in Steven's car when it was found.

NUMEROUS JOB APPLICATIONS, in fact, is the phrase that his father used.

Just think what we could have done with that information, if we knew who he was applying to. List the companies, and see what else in the alphabet is missing. List the addresses, and we'd know where he planned on driving next.

If he printed those out using his own computer, there should be traces of them there....and those that were not found in the stack, would be where Steven should be looked for.

But...his parents didn't come here for help. Steven's cousin did. I think Naegle has done a great job of getting as much information from them, as they are willing to give.

Naegle's been open to alternative scenarios. His parents are looking for a son who was did "marketing for a home cleaning business" and who had "numerous job applications" in his vehicle.

I said, back on Jan 27th "We're dealing with fragile people who are stuck halfway between hope and grief."

I still believe that's true.

I've been following this from thread one. I came here from another site after talking to the landlord about SK's disappearance.
I know many of you asked questions in the last thread for the landlord to answer, but, tbh, I don't think she'd be able to provide the answers to those questions (I forget the exact questions so I apologize for not posting them) because she said she wasn't there very often at all. When she was, she had very little/no contact with the tenants.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from asking questions (I'm banging my head on the wall just like many of you), but I think the landlord did her best to give the tenants the privacy that most tenants want and deserve. Maybe a better question to ask is when was the last time SL was staying at her second home before SK went missing and what exactly she observed. I don't know. Surely if you guys can't figure this out, there's no chance for me to. (Since some of the things you guys have done/offered up have made me sit here in awe. lol)

TBH, the co-tenant probably knows quite a bit more about SK's comings and goings than the landlord does.... but I don't see him putting himself in the middle of an investigation voluntarily.

Even with just the knowledge that there were completed job apps in the car, we can glean something. If it is true, he was probably planning on going back to the car after we last see him, maybe making the rounds of places he could drop off his job apps. I'm sure that he was taking either a job app,or a resume when we last see him. He seemingly never came back from the place he was headed to....

Imaginethat,
I was asking those questions about Steven's house. I wondered how many, and who his visitors were when he vanished. Also wondered if GW ever visited. Yes, I can see that the other tenant might know a lot, but, you're so right, he won't be contacting LE any time soon.JMO

I think it's an intrusive and rude time of day to just drop an application off at someone's home BUT if he had an appointment.....?

We're flat back to where we started, except with an even larger empty hole that could have had information in it by now.

Certainly, LE has those job apps and has been able to screen through them.

This is just disappointing. Why would these numerous job applications have been a secret, for so long?

From what I remember, LE had already talked to the roommate and decided he had nothing to do with Steven's disappearance.

I am by now almost convinced that Steven did have a job related appointment in the Anthem area. Nothing formal, just a casual "why don't you drop by around noonish on Sunday with your resume ?" kind of thing. I also think he was not comfortable with the situation, hence him sitting in his car for, what, about 3-4 minutes ? That may not have been appointment time related,it could have been Steven's instincts telling him not to go. But, he was pretty desperate by then .... I believe he met someone, got into a conversation about jobs, and they lured him.
