No new leads in "child doe" case in Opelika

Day two of an extensive and detailed search near the Brook Haven Trailer Park in Opelika has ended. The FBI evidence recovery team joined in with investigators to search the woods where a child's skull and other remains were discovered about two weeks ago.

[snip]

The detailed grid search ended Friday afternoon with no more remains or evidence being found. Investigators are now waiting on the state crime lab and FBI to complete a forensics report on the skull and remains.

As investigators wait for those forensic tests to get back, detectives say they are positive someone, somewhere knows something about a missing person that could be extremely important to this case, even if you think it is insignificant.

Investigators in Opelika say they have not been able to identify human child remains. It has been more than a month since they were discovered.

It is believe the remains found the first weeks in February belong to a child between 6 and 10 years old.

However, detailed information including gender, exact age, cause of death and how long the remains had been there are unknown because the FBI is still conducting forensic tests.

I don't know how they can think the year of death was 2012 when these remains were fully skeletalized and found on January 28th. However, if they are believed to be fairly recent DNA shouldn't be so degraded it's difficult to obtain.

It's surprising none of the residents of the trailer park were of any assistance. I honestly thought someone might have known of a story of a child that went missing. That the family had excuses for being sent away somewhere when asked why they weren't around. Or maybe a single father, or grandparent who has been denied access and given excuses regarding why they can't see the child.

If baby teeth exist, LE could also do the isotope testing to determine the area the mother resided while pregnant.

Prayers this child has his or her name back soon.

Did they verify race yet?

HaLeigh Cummings had Turners Syndrome, remember?

ETA: Please disregard the above.
Race has been determined as African American.

"OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -
Opelika officials revealed Tuesday afternoon the human remains found near a trailer park in Lee County belongs to a girl of African-American decent between 4 and 7 years old."

I do have a question, if anybody knows the answer. I am sure it was discussed in HaLeighs thread somewhere but would Turners show up in bones years after death?

I was just reading through Teresa Melissa Dean's Charley and NamUs narrative:

https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/3991/0
(Note the 1997 Date LKA in her NamUs casefile is incorrect. The correct date of last contact is reflected in the Charley Project casefile)

When I saw this child (and others) with an Alabama/Georgia connection who all disappeared from trailer parks, I immediately thought of this Opelika case.

She is probably slightly too old, but not by far, and I'm still not sure if they have confirmed the race of the child. But even if our UID is not Teresa, perhaps these cases ares connected.

Police hope image of mystery girl yields clues
OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) -- Police are hoping the public can help identify a young girl whose skeletal remains were found in an Opelika mobile home community in January.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports ( http://bit.ly/KziBhX ) that authorities believe the girl was between 4- and 7-years-old and was likely malnourished and physically abused before her death.

Federal agents created a 3-D likeness of the girl and posted it online at http://1.usa.gov/L0Vih7

My heart jumped when I saw the pictures of the bust of the unidentified "mystery girl" ... immediately reminded me of the missing Jamisons and the picture of their daughter.

I pasted a pic of the Jamison girl alongside pictures of the mystery girl and uploaded it here as an attachment.

I posted this but I'm torn on whether or not I should report the likeness. It is reported the skull found in Alabama is of an African American girl, but is race determination an exact science? I know shape and dimension of certain bones may play a role in determination but I am not sure of accuracy statistics.

Should this seeming similarty between "Juvenile Jane Doe" and Madyson Jamison be reported?

Aside from the likeness in their facial expressions, and their missing teeth (which most kids at that age have), she doesn't fit the description.

Even at that young age, the bones of Black children are distinguishable from those of caucasian children.

And also, the child was described as malnourishied, underdeveloped, and abused. I don't think Madyson would fit that description.

It's possible Madyson could fit that description if she were no longer in the company of her parents and neglected for a while after she had gone missing. As for 'underdeveloped', I believe Madyson was slightly smallish for her age .. at least she seemed so in the Jamison's home surveillance video .. but appeared 'average' in the last photo of her standing / sitting by a rock out-crop on the mountain.

Oh well, no stone unturned, right?

I know, not likely but still, the resemblance is striking, beyond the missing teeth.
