I'm a little perplexed as to how this very essential fact has not been throughly discussed. He does have a criminal history for forgery (Amex) and I believe some sort of theft by deception (or something to that effect).

It is not out of the realm of possibilities that he may have continued his 2 bit criminal activities but to gather large amounts of money - he just doesn't seem crafty enough to pull it off. As speculated by others there may be other unknown victims that have yet to be identified from which he could have stolen funds.

In addition - the idea that he could obtain fake passports and identification so easily... I'm no criminal mastermind but I'd think high quality documents that could get you in and out of countries and through customs would cost thousands of dollars and you would need very good connections. I just don't see LM having the ability to make those sort of "friends".

It just doesn't add up. Insanely wealthy individuals (pun intended) don't give money out to just anyone - especially not to the type of person LM has paraded himself out to be. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to identify obvious trash.

One point that stood out to me was that initially police said he did not have a criminal record which makes me believe that the criminal activities he was charged with and convicted were under his birth name rather than his legally changed name of Luka Rocco Magnotta. Pure speculation but I would hypothesize that even after his legal name change (in 2006??) he was able to utilize the benefits of his legal name and birth name; additionally I would speculate that his convictions are not documented if one did a records search of one of his "legal" names before May 28, 2012.

Just pure speculation and thinking out loud.

Sure anything is possible at this point, my thinking is though if youre going to make a snuff film and risk a life in prison you may as well market it (which he did) and sell it (which he may have).

Considering he has a history on the deep web where such things are actively sought out, I think its likely he sold it, edited out the kill shot for the buyer and is now living it up, he obviously has money, I dont think he is poor.

My guess is there is no buyer. He did it because he's a sick freak, and edited the video in such a way that he thought he could create reasonable doubt even if he was caught. Or even just for the superficial, crass reason that it would create conversations like this in threads like this.

Like every other part of the internet, it can be used for good or bad, which is why child *advertiser censored* merchants and other freaks started to catch on to it. However, its not a place where snuff movies are traded, so I highly doubt that this is the first example of such.

Its my opinion that this is a lone freak who filmed this for the same reason he filmed the kitten killings - exhibitionist thrills. I don't believe there are any millions from a snuff buyer, any more than I believe Luka was ever a high level escort. He's a low life loner who killed a man and filmed it for sick exhibitionist thrills.

Eh, I'm not so sure I agree with this article. He could've easily booked a roundtrip flight for around $6-800 if he booked it far enough in advance and as he's done before, stay in extremely cheap hotels or even hostels. I just got back from a 3-week, 7-country trip overseas and stayed in mostly hostels. For an average of $15 a night, I got a bed, hot shower, free breakfast, free unlimited wifi and usually a free beer. They also accepted cash and some didn't even require an ID. He's young enough to fit in with the international backpacker crowd and could potentially go unnoticed if he changed places frequently. Since he's been planning this for awhile, he could've just turned some more tricks and/or bought stolen credit cards from the Deep Web to fund it.

As for him being able to slip into other countries, I'm not so sure. I got interrogated pretty thoroughly at every immigration checkpoint. Even with very detailed itineries, I was still made to show proof of where I was staying, for how long and exactly how I'd be leaving their country. Another thing, most European countries only require a passport for a short stay. Russia is the exception. You have to apply for a visa just to enter the country so he's definitely not there.

What about the blood on the mattress and body parts they retrieved from the apartment? Everything to me indicates he wants to be known for grisly act and is seeking the infamy.

If the murder hadn't been discovered, there wouldn't be a mattress and body parts wouldn't be associated with Magnotta. What we would have are body parts delivered to two political parties, an unrelated missing student and that's it ... no connection to Magnotta. If the suitcase with the torso had been collected with the rest of the trash, there's a good possibility that Magnotta would have gotten away with it. There would be a snuff film, but with no body connected to Magnotta, that may have been vewed a as a fake ... especially since reports about the film are that there was no blood loss at the time of the stabbing. I don't think he wanted to get caught. I think he thought he was so clever that he would never get caught ... the only glitch in the plan was that when the garbage guys picked up the furniture that he put out, they left the suitcase behind.

Where would he get thousands of dollars instantly for a round-trip flight to France? It wasn't 'instant', he was planning this for at least a few weeks before he did it, pre-hyping his vid on forum chat boards, 'asking what happened to the ice pick vid?' before he even did it, trying to see what kind of attention he'd get if he really went through with it.
So where did this bum get the cash? You know, when homeless crackheads spend 100's or 1000's per week on crack no one asks where the money comes from. To paraphrase the song 'It's easy mm'kay', "homeless on the streets giving h---jobs for cash", he probably hustled himself nonstop the week before and saved every cent. That, and if Lin was really his boyfriend, he may have known his PIN, I wouldn't be shocked if Lin made a large cash withdrawl on May 24th or 25th.
Not only that, Luka probably was not, nor intended to be, on the flight bound for France. He probably booked that flight to put the focus on the manhunt for him somewhere else. And if (which I doubt) he did go to France, I doubt he stayed there, going from country to country once you are in the EU isn't like Mexico/US/Canada cross-border travelling (from what I understand from other people who have travelled across Europe, I've never been.)
But I really dont see the 100% connection that his snuff vid was funded and thats how he paid for his flight.

Yes, it definitely would be. However, there's no evidence that it ever was, even though there is plenty of evidence about other illegal activity on the deep web, despite the extensive efforts to cover them up.

I just don't buy the idea that Luka is living it up off money from a hypothetical snuff buyer. There is considerable evidence that he does these things for his own kicks - I mean, who paid him to kill kittens? Or to send threatening e-mails to a journalist? Nobody.

Look for Luka among the detritus of society, IMO, not living it up on millions from a snuff movie sale that there is absolutely no evidence for.
