The hospital described them as non life threatening but BSL might have exaggerated how threatening they were, as justification as to why he fought back how he did.

I WISH they were life threatening.

That wording: "she jumped up" doesn't ring true to me. From accounts I've read where a victim has been stabbed and is feigning death in order to escape, those victims don't jump up and attack, they lay motionless, until the perp. leaves the area.

The wording almost makes it sound like the perp. is saying she attacked him, in order to say somehow she is involved--"life-threatening injuries".

Grrrr.

I was think the same thing as I was reading it but didn't want to mention it because I thought that was just my vivid imagination

Wonder if he did take pictures of those wounds and WHY? Did he want to remember that moment so his next victim will pay more? Too much to think on.

The way I read it, they're not sure. IMO, he played nice and apologetic, as a lot of folks speculated earlier. Her bike wouldn't ride - she was stranded. Yes, she could have called someone. But maybe he charmed her into the truck - to give her a ride - and then it played out from there.

Maybe not. He could have pointed the gun at her from the get-go.

That seems a higher possibility than her getting in a stranger's truck, even if he was being nice.

Looking at my notes....she was thrown from her vehicle when hit, BSL had a semi-automatic and a knife, an "encounter" ensued. She was enticed or forced into the vehicle.

Enticed =with a weapon,
Forced= physically.

Heaven joins me and others this afternoon as the sky opens over the city of Lafayette and many tears are shed over the ending of the physical lives of Lisa and Mickey, two young women who could have had full, wonderful lives ahead of them.

Peace and comfort to all the families involved at this time as they have all
lost a family member that they loved and all are hurting. May our God bestow upon them and us the strength and power to love the unlovable and find it in our hearts to pray for mercy and forgiveness for Brandons soul, that he may repent and ask for forgiveness. The same God many have been praying to tells us it is easy to love the lovable like Mickey but oh so much harder to pray for the unlovable like BSL. as I read recently on a billboard -a church is a hospital for those who need healing, not a courtroom.

We can't undo what BSL has done but we can educate people on how to be safer, alert, and aware. We can teach people that even though others may bully them and reject them that there are people in this world who have love and compassion in their hearts. We can work together to help other families in need, not just the ones who remind us of our own. There are many people
out there who have lost people they loved to violent crimes.be a support person for them, lend a helping hand.

May Mickeys memory bring warmth to the Shunicks for many years as I am sure Lisa's did for her family.

I'm so frustrated and sad right now it's unbelievable. I'm glad to have made my way to the WS community in all of this. Lavergne knew what he was after on that terrible night. Having made calls to escort services beforehand. I guess the sick *advertiser censored* could not get an escort so when he seen Mickey pass she was an easy target...so he thought. I hope every victim of BSL can be linked to him. I wonder what would have happened if Mickey didn't fight back in the field...would he have left her there or did more violent acts upon her? I have been getting on WS a good amount lately checking on cases and plan to continue this and do what I can in my area to prevent this from happening again.

Yes, a few of the Jennings serial killer victims should not ruled out, imo... 'Some were left in fields'...

"Clay Lejeune, one of Lavergne’s defense attorneys, said following the hearing that Lavergne has wanted to come clean about Shunick since before his arraignment. “He showed deep concern for the Shunicks and wanted closure for them,” Lejeune said." From the advertiser

first reaction: <modsnip>
second reaction: Mamaroux's prayers were delivered

Mr. Shunick said he was actually feeling almost happy today. Happy there wasn't going to be a long trial. He was asked whether he felt closure so that healing could begin. He said that the healing has been going on for awhile. The Shunicks were very composed, and almost light-hearted. I think that they have taken a good amount of comfort in that at least they know what happened, and know how hard Mickey fought back, and also that her suffering wasn't prolonged more than it was.

I hope that Lavergne wrote a sincere apology. That's the least he could do.

"she jumped up" wording reminds me of the character of Alex in Fatal Attraction where she "jumps up" out of the water.

Seems borrowed to me, and not true.

I don't read "enticed" the same way. Enticed means the same as "charmed," for all intents and purposes. Having a gun or knife pointed at me is not an enticing sight. Looks to me like they're not sure of the method, or that they are misusing the word, "enticed," and meant to say, "coerced."

Yep. And Mickey made damn sure that things went horribly wrong for him.

But alas, if he enjoys sex (especially of the non-consensual variety), I'm sure his cellmates at Angola will be happy to accommodate him.

*advertiser censored*.

I want to know HOW he got here in the truck. Even with a gun pointed at her, I think she would have run in the other direction or something. He probably got her in the truck the same way he got the missing girl in Texas in it. I mean how do you get someone against their will into your truck and then have time to throw her bike in the back? Then walk around to the driver's side and get in. She would have had time to get out. I'm thinking stun gun? Ideas?

University Medical Center is not even a mile from where she was hit; Lafayette General Medical Center is only a mile away, as well. It would have been easy for him to say something like, "Oh, I'm so sorry! I lost track of you in the dark and hit you! You okay? No? Dangit, your bike's all screwed up! Gee, I'm sorry, lady. Here, I'll throw the bike in back of the truck. UMC's right down the road, let's go get you checked out real quick and make sure everything's okay."

The moment she got into the truck, she may have gotten a good look at him and realized something was off. If he had child locks on the truck and she could not open the passenger door from the inside, the altercation and stabbings could well have occurred as they sat parked in that lonely area between Dean Street and Blackham. No one would have heard her shrieking from the interior of the cab.

I have been sitting here screaming the same thing. I think this is where he was going to rape her and possibly the second attack from Mickey occurred. BSL basically said the same about Pate. If she would not have tried to take his wallet and key he would not have had to beat her face in and kill her and blame it on the guy that was killed in the car wreck.
Either they have more details on the tape and just left it off the documents or he is lying.

Can a plea deal be thrown out because of a proven false confession?

She was able to mace him, grab his knife, and stab him several times, giving him what were described as "life-threatening cuts."

However, when Lavergne brought Shunick to a seclude cane field in Acadia Parish, she jumped up and regained control of knife. Shunick stabbed him in the chest.

From KATC

^ A few things not mentioned previously. She had apparently stabbed him before he stabbed her, and then stabbed him again in the cane field.

What a brave, courageous woman. RIP Mickey

I've personally never had to use pepper spray on anyone, fortunately. It's eye opening to find out that its ineffective. Please fellow ladies, do NOT rely on this stuff or let it give you a false sense of security!!!

On the way to Angola right now as I type. Glad they are moving things along swiftly and not dragging it out.
