"Tattooed body parts found in a sewer line in Sterling Heights in August are those of a Caucasian female with a large build, police said Monday.

The new information comes from examination of DNA samples from the parts that were submitted to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification, Department of Forensics and Investigative Genetics and the Macomb County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Texas lab determined the remains belonged to a woman. The other information came from the Medical Examiner's Office".

More than four mouths after Liu’s severed body parts started turning up in various spots in the GTA, her ex-husband and three sons held a small funeral service to remember her. Liu had left little mark on Canada in the 10 years since she fled China to escape its one-child policy.

It’s not clear why a funeral was delayed so long, but the reason may have been a long delay in obtaining travel documents for her ex-husband, Qing Shi Chang, and the younger sons.

"The jury deliberated for about 13 hours before finding Chun Qi Jiang guilty in the death of 41-year-old Guang Hua Liu, whose body parts were found in several Toronto-area locations in August 2012.

Jiang, who wore a plaid, button-down shirt and tan slacks, looked straight ahead as the jury read out the verdict, which carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for between 10 and 25 years."

A Toronto man who was found guilty of brutally murdering his ex-girlfriend is being sentenced to life in prison with no parole for 18 years...

None of Liu’s family members or her new boyfriend appeared in court, and Jiang cannot contact them as part of his sentence.

With most of her relatives in China, there was no family in the courtroom for the murdered woman. Her grieving boyfriend was also absent, wary of the media attention this case has garnered. And, unlike most sentencing hearings, there were no victim impact statements filed with the court. But Liu was not alone, nonetheless.

In the courtroom were many of the jurors who had spent weeks this spring listening to the horrendous evidence and viewing photo after nightmare-inducing photo of a woman butchered and discarded. They would have every right to stay as far as they possibly could from this court and this cold, convicted killer, filling their day instead with sunshine, family and friends as this long weekend was set to begin.

Instead, they were here — to bear witness for a victim who was thrown away like garbage and to ensure that for Liu’s sake, justice was done.

Toronto police identify remains found in floating suitcase

Human remains found in a suitcase floating in Lake Ontario near Toronto this week belonged to a single mother who went missing early last month and whose body parts had been scattered throughout the city, police confirmed yesterday.

Toronto police said a post−mortem examination identified the remains as those of Guang Hua Liu, a 41-year-old former spa owner and mother of three.

A Toronto man who brutally murdered his ex-girlfriend and then carved up her body and scattered the pieces to cover up his crime may not have acted entirely alone, an Ontario Superior Court judge said Friday in sentencing him to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 18 years.

While the jury found Chun Qi Jiang was the one to fatally stab 41-year-old Guang Hua Liu two years ago, evidence presented at trial suggests his late mother helped in the cleanup, Judge Gisele Miller said in her decision.
