Another (high-risk lifestyle) young woman murdered - she had been interviewed previous week at her friend's funeral who was stabbed on St. Patricks day, at a house party in Orleans (Ottawa).

It is alleged the man who killed her was the cleaner at a run-down motel, in the Greely area (Bank St., south of Ottawa). The story is still developing, so details might change as more info comes out. Will post a few links, but there are a lot more online.

Now the 34-year old who has a long criminal record dating back over the past 15 years, will meet with a court psychiatrist, who will determine if there is enough evidence to request a full mental assessment that could help determine if he can be held criminally responsible :banghead:

The 14 y-o son of the owner of the motel where JR was found, had been in the news last year for broadcasting a radio station from that location without a licence or something like that (unrelated to this story, just as a reference).

Last Christmas Day, Roche threatened Jessica Riopelle's sister on Facebook.

"Gangstas line up: murder Chelsea Riopelle, $1,000 cash for video," Roche wrote.

On March 23, while he was out on bail charged with uttering threats, he sent Karen Riopelle a Facebook message.

"Happy f---ing dead daughter day," he wrote along with a picture of Jessica Photoshopped with a hammer and blood.

The 23-year-old was found dead on March 27, 2011. It's believed she was bludgeoned to death with a hammer.

I applaud the statement by Maggie's to Kera Freeland's family and regarding her manner of death. Imo, we cannot pick and choose when, where and to whom violence is directed and inflicted - it's wrong at every level.

Also imo, LE encourages and condones violence towards escorts etc by turning a blind eye and insisting upon prosecution of women in this trade - just ask Picton why he thought he could get away with so many murders. He clearly had no fear of LE.

Found the video clip where "Roche told a QMI Agency reporter at Jessica Riopelle's funeral that he'd gone to high school with her and would miss her smile and laugh." mentioned in the article you posted. Also from that article, Joel Roche is a 25-year-old Algonquin College student. Hope LE is keeping a close eye on him.

Toronto Police Service called the friend 'sweetie' when she tried to report Kera missing. When is TPS going to get they need to consider themselves on camera each and every time they interact with the public? Sad to say, that make me think TPS will not work very hard on this case - after all KF just ran away according to them, and did not bother to contact Kera's friend when she was found.

My heart goes out to JD and I hope she finds peace with this someday as TPS may never bother to come up with anything, at least nothing they will bother to share with anyone that cared about Kera.

Respectfully, I don't see any difference between saying a victim was an escort or, for example, a secretary in a real estate office, etc. It is what the victim DID for a living, and is part of their victimology.

Less than a month after Ontario Provincial Police renewed their appeal for tips and revealed that DNA testing was being conducted, a male was arrested on unknown charges in Calgary on Wednesday, CTV Toronto’s Tamara Cherry reports.

The male is scheduled to appear in court in Calgary on Thursday before being transported to Ontario to face charges in Freeland’s death.

Freeland was from Calgary and worked in Toronto as an escort while living in an apartment on Lake Shore Boulevard West, near Royal York Road.

According to media reports in Ontario, Freeland worked as an escort. Her 20-year-old body was discovered in a ditch in Caledon.

Freeland spent part of her youth in Calgary and her adoptive mother Denise Freeland still lives here.

Police say Freeland lived in a downtown Toronto apartment and her former roommate, Christopher Andronakos, 35, has been charged in the killing.

He was arrested in Calgary on Wednesday and faces a charge of second degree murder.

The OPP’s Det. Insp. Christine Gilpin said Freeland was in the early stages of pregnancy when she was killed and the suspect is not believed to be the father.

Freeland had previously worked as an escort, but had stopped weeks before her death for health reasons.

“Kera Freeland was definitely a victim of this crime,” said Gilpin. “Her lifestyle was what it was, however, it did not form part of this homicide investigation. We will investigate every case of a homicide or any other case of victimization regardless of status.”

Police are not revealing the cause of death but Gilpin said “her death is not connected in any way to her escort lifestyle.”

As her roommate, Andronakos was interviewed shortly after the killing and he came to Calgary in 2012. The pair met in Toronto six weeks before the death when she moved into his apartment; they didn’t know each other in Calgary, said Gilpin.

He is known to police in the Toronto area but was not involved the escort business, she said.
