On 23 July 2010, an Ontario Disability Support Program representative contacted the OPP to report that support cheques for Shelley ANDERSON of Lang Street, Cobalt Ontario, were returned uncashed for the past 12 months. Police attended the Anderson residence and were unable to locate her. She was last seen in the Haileybury and Cobalt area some time during the summer of 2009. Shelley Anderson also has ties to the Timmins and Schumacher areas since she lived there for most of her life.

"Even with her handicap, she was very street wise. She knew how to take care of herself," said brother Keith Anderson.

His 51-year-old sister was last seen at the Haileybury Country Style with an older man driving a Jimmy-style SUV that was maroon and silver in colour. She had moved to Cobalt from South Porcupine just two months prior in July 2009.

He said she suffered mild brain damage while in a coma as a teenager, but she had lived on her own for most of her life.

I believe Shelley is an Indigenous woman -- see http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/12/19/missing-aboriginal-women-canada-2014_n_6357050.html -- and thus more at risk statistically. It's devastating to see how disproportionately Aboriginal women are targeted for violence in Canada. (The link above gives names and images for a number of our murdered and missing.) The Canadian government should listen to the endless number of Indigenous scholars and activists, and their allies, who have been demanding a national inquiry specifically on the catastrophe of missing and murdered Aboriginal women.

<<Shelley Anderson, age 50, was last seen by her landlord walking in downtown Cobalt, sometime in September 2009. Anderson told her landlord that day that she may go visit her boyfriend in Englehart. She was also seen by her aunt sometime in late September at the Country Style in Haileybury, at which time she was seen in a vehicle with an older male. The vehicle was described as an older model “Jimmy/SUV” style vehicle, dull maroon and silver in colour. Anderson has not been seen since.>>

<<Shelley suffered mild brain damage after being in a coma as a teenager. Her family describes her as very capable and "street smart" despite her disability. She was not on any known medicating when she disappeared. Shelley could be in the Ontario towns of Timmins or Schumacher as she grew up in those areas. She remains missing.

Shelley wears glasses and may go by the names Shelley Becker or Brenda.
