is it common knowledge that the area is called "peculiar"? would KY have known that?
It seems to be pretty common knowledge in these parts. I'm sure he would have known. I'm on the Kansas side and I've heard of it many times. That incident report on him driving on Highway Y said he had a friend in the area, so he apparently knew it to some extent.

he probably thought it was "peculiar" he was getting away w it for so long.

I will also say that I think he knew the area because he was able to go back in those woods and put Jessica with Kara. I grew up on property that had a lot of wooded area, and I can say from experience that it's not always easy to remember where you're going in places like that even with markers. And that was my home, not some random place I didn't know. I'd say Kylr has been back in those woods more than once since he put Kara there. Perhaps visiting his crime scene. I think he chose it in part because of the no trespassing signs. With that, he would know it was a place that not many people would likely be trudging though unlike many other parts that hunters and the like use. No one would wander in and see what he was doing. It wouldn't be likely that someone would stumble upon his crime scene. The thought of it all gives me chills.

peculiar is the name of the town...it's right next to belton...my mom lives there

almost thought when they said belton it was the one here in tx. in speaking of funny town names, we got one near killeen called ding dong :-)

Seems the presser was at 4:45!

They have narrowed down the search area from 15 acres to 2 acres. 110 personal have been helping search including students from the police academy.

Will return to the scene tomorrow with less personal but more specialist crime scene techs

As now an active homicide investigation they won't be able to release much information

The search may be finished as early as tomorrow but depending on what they find today and tonight, it may be extended

There has been a number of items that they will recover tonight, depending on what those items are they may be related to the Runions case or the other unidentified set we have at this point

A lot of the 15 acres has been searched 3 times. Make sure they dont miss anything and now will go back in with specific crime scene techs that will include digging underground.

Its a challenge, with the rain and the mud, and being so close to the highway.

I can say that we did identify several pieces of evidence .. I eh, I'm not ready to tell you if they are human remains or something else, but we are recovering evidence and things that we believe will help us identify, possibly the 2nd person, and help with the ongoing homicide case

the bracelet? here is hoping

I can see him leaving the girl's earrings in, but if he left Kara with her necklace and bracelet it will dash any iota of belief that he is even a little smart.

I know he was drunk with Jessica. I wonder if he was under the influence of anything with Kara. IMO, that would make him more likely to overlook those things. Panic is another factor. But fortunately I don't know what it's like to have just murdered someone.

Something I don't think we've discussed - at least if we have I don't remember - do we know what he was doing in Oklahoma (besides trafficking drugs and spending time in prison)? What led him to go there? His criminal records seem to fall off around 2011 or so in the Missouri area, and then in 2013 he was sentenced on the drug trafficking charge in Oklahoma. I may be wrong, but I have a hard time believing that he took a nine year break in killing between Kara and Jessica.

maybe he didn't know it was key, her mom mentioned them later. he could have gone back over there though.

nothing would surprise me, but I see him as more of a blintz/abuser murderer than a serial killer.

I wonder if he was running large bundles of Marijuana from Texas to KC and got caught with a shipment in Oklahoma.

I could be wrong but I believe the drug charge was Federal and thus since found guilty, he was in the federal penitentiary in Oklahoma. The crime itself was not necessarily committed in OK IIRC

I was mistaken. I thought he was in Oklahoma at the time of the arrest and charges on the drug trafficking. Everything I've read until now suggested that. This article states that U.S. Customs agents in San Francisco intercepted a package from China that had been shipped to KY at an address in Kansas City. After he tried telling authorities he was going to use the drugs as fertilizer for his vegetables, he was tried and shipped off to federal prison in Oklahoma after sentencing. Scroll down to the subtitle 'Federal Drug Case' to see more info at the link. Sorry all. I thought he was legit living there for a time. http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article102134552.html

Both mothers answering questions, it's pretty long but Jessica's mom seems really strong and focused. They are both insanely strong.

i think she's still in shock... there's almost a twinge of mania in her responses as if she's putting on a brave show because she knows when it's just the 2 of them and the cameras are gone, she can let it all out

that's exactly how i would act
