Makes sense - going up or down stairs, a person usually puts their whole hand/palm onto the rail, not just fingertips

That's what I have understood. Though it's not communal it's private stairs to the grandparents' flat.

Yes, she does, but the way they are reporting it does make it confusing - stating that the palm print was found inside the house.
Technically it is * inside* their house as that spiral staircase is private to the McPhail flat only - but it's not inside the actual flat itself.

Yes though RM stated in evidence the accused had never been inside the flat. Again I don't think we were clear whether he meant inside the main door of the flat or inside the stairs. And of course whether his evidence was the truth or not.
