The Sutter County Sheriff's Office has not yet been able to identify their John Doe. Officers have been to all of the local tattoo shops in Marysville and Yuba City, to no avail.

The body could have come downriver from as far away as Oroville, so the detectives are asking people to share this article so the man's family and friends can be notified.

"Someone has to know him or be missing him," said Detective Laura Austin.

She said even though the body was badly decomposed in the river, the man is believed to be 30 to 40 years of age, with black or dark brown hair.

Local tattoo shops are a good start. It might also be possible to roughly narrow down when he was in the air force and whether the tattoos were likely obtained after leaving.

I am vaguely aware that the military changed their tattoo policy several years ago to discourage extensive tattooing. The changes included restrictions in the number of tattoos, the size of individual tattoos and restriction on where they can be located.

The 'Air Force' tattoos would, in all probability, comply with the policy. The sheep dog on the shoulder might well be permissible (probably not encouraged though). But… my guess is that the large ‘faith’ tattoo on the fore arm would not as it is large and likely to be visible. Thus, it was probably gotten after leaving the air force. This would seem to mean that he left the Air Force sometime after the change in policy.

Body in Calif. river ID'd as suspect in Camano Island woman's beheading death

A man's body found in a California river last year was identified Tuesday as the suspect in the grisly beheading death of a Camano Island woman, Island County sheriff's officials said.

The suspect, identified as Jacob Gonzales, 33, of California, went on the run and disappeared after the murder of 26-year-old Katherine Cunningham, whose body was found March 3, 2018, on a piece of property off Tamarack Lane on Camano Island. She had been decapititated.

Investigators later determined that her death had occurred around two weeks before her body was discovered - sometime on February 14 or 15, 2018, according to court documents.
