WA - Katherine Cunningham, Decapitated, Suspect On the Run, Mar 2018

 • #21
woooowww....

The following is all from Ashleigh Banfield's show tonight, featuring freelance journalist Dillon Hancoop:
Arrest warrant for Jacob is not for murder of Katherine, and he is named as POI but not suspect. Warrant info:
Motor vehicle theft
Unlawful possession of firearm
$1 million bail attached

Cut across neck, body was bloodless
Bunker was secondary crime scene; body was moved there
There were 12 empty sandbags laid like a trail between body (in sleeping bag/tarp) and bunker
Blood and clumps of hair found in a trailer
Search warrant listed "missing portions of anatomy" - inferring that her head may not be located yet.
LE think Jacob may be headed to Las Vegas.

ETA - Haven't been following closely before; I see not much of this is new info.

I’m a little doubtful that Gonzales made it to Happy Camp about 70 miles west of I-5 unless he “acquired” another car or hitched a ride. And why would he go there and why would he ask about mushroom hunting? I’ve been to Happy Camp and it’s a very small town out in the middle of nowhere and people notice strangers. But I could be wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time.

Not finding any recent updates, but did find this information in an article from several days ago, which was new to me:

Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey said, “The person of interest may have been sighted in our county and there are strong indicators he was in our county when the vehicle evidently got stuck in the snow on I-5 on Anderson Grade.”
[...]
Lopey noted that some items inside the vehicle were helpful to the ongoing investigation. CHP Officer Shawn Gordon said that the vehicle was turned over to the Island County Sheriff’s Department.

Again, not new, just some additional info about Katherine:

Candles burned bright in memory of 26-year-old Katherine Cunningham, known as "Kat."

A former co-worker told KOMO News that Cunningham worked at Josephine Sunset Home near Stanwood, and that she was kind and gracious.

"She was a certified nurse's aid, she took care of a lot of elderly people," said friend and former co-worker Wanda Bailey.

Police records reveal details about Camano Island homicide, bunker contents
As a manhunt continues for Jacob Gonzales, a person of interest in the Camano Island homicide discovered March 3, public records reveal more details about the crime scene and the firearms, ammo and gear he left behind.

Investigators discovered four firearms, a ballistics vest and ammunition in the earthen bunker on the remote, forested parcel on south Camano, according to documents from the Island County Sheriff’s Office obtained by the Stanwood Camano News through a public records request. Authorities also found a handgun in a trailer on the property, and they learned from a friend of Gonzales that he was trying to live "off the grid" as a "bunker nut" that thought the government might try to take his guns, according to a number of search warrants and affidavits.

HAVE YOU SEEN HIM? The Island Co. Sheriff's Office in Washington state is charging Jacob Gonzales with new domestic violence murder charges for allegedly beheading an Atwater woman earlier this year. He's on the run, but believed to be in the Merced County area. @ABC30

Man accused of beheading woman faces new charges after DNA matched blood found on samurai sword (with clip)

July 05, 2018

"...Katherine Cunningham was killed earlier this year in February.

She was found beheaded close to a bunker filled with guns on Camano Island in Washington.

Her alleged killer, Jacob Gonzales, is facing new charges for the murder after island county investigators say DNA on the handle of a samurai sword found matched his DNA.

The blood found on the blade also matched Katherine's.

Gonzalez is still on the run, and authorities believe he could be hiding out in Merced County...."

Sounds like him! Same tattoos according to this article.

Body found in California river may be suspect in Camano Island beheading

The family of a murdered Island County woman believe a body recovered from a Northern California river last spring may be that of her killer.
[.....]
An unidentified body was found under the 10th Street Bridge in the Feather River on April 7, 2018, and has not yet been identified by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office. For months, the department and the Appeal-Democrat published that help was needed in identifying the body, and his two prominent tattoos were even published: a large dog or wolf with a banner reading “sheepdog” and another reading “faith” in script.

The body was originally identified as female because he was dressed in women’s clothing, according to Appeal-Democrat archives. The man was 5-foot-6 and weighed around 125 pounds and had dark hair — black or brown.
