Police: Search for U of U student, now missing for 9 days, is a top priority
[...]

Police spokesman Tim Doubt said they have video of her getting off the plane from multiple angles from the time she left the airplane to the time she took a Lyft to Hatch Park. It was there she got into a car with someone, thought police did not indicate they know the identity of that person.

[...]

Doubt said there are several lingering questions for police such as: Who is the person they met in a park? Does Lueck have another phone? Are there social media accounts police don't know about?

Police said investigators are working on the case around the clock and she remains a high priority. The FBI has also been contacted about her missing status.

[...]

The family also read a statement through spokeswoman JC, a friend of Lueck.

She said because there is widespread media coverage regarding her disappearance, the family's official media representatives are the Salt Lake City Police Department. JC read the statement and didn't take any questions. Police said Cawley was in close contact with the family.

[...]

Police said Lueck had three prior interactions with police, including a moving violation, an assault and found property in January. All of those cases were resolved and are not expected to be related to her disappearance.

[...]

Police mentioned social media accounts and reporters at the press conference but told reporters there is no indication of further social media but said it was simply part of the widespread investigation.

[...]

Detectives are working to identify the car and person Lueck met at Hatch Park.Doubt says they don't know who the person is.

Police release last known photos of missing college student
[...]

The Lyft driver told police that an individual met Lueck at the park and the 23-year-old did not appear to be in distress, Salt Lake City Police assistant chief Tim Doubt said.

[...]

"She has this cat, cute little black cat named Nova. She came back and didn't even go by to see Nova, and that's strange," Cauley said. "That cat's her best friend."

[...]

The college senior has missed a midterm exam since she vanished, Doubt said.

To JC, that shows "there's something wrong. Because she's never been one to ditch her priorities even when she's been going through tough times."

Missing Utah college student last seen in a Salt Lake City park at 3 a.m.

6/24/19

SALT LAKE CITY — A University of Utah student missing for over a week was last seen meeting an unknown person at a park at 3 in the morning, authorities said Monday.

The Lyft driver who took Mackenzie Lueck from the airport and dropped her off at a park in a Salt Lake City suburb on June 17 told detectives the woman didn't seem in any distress when she met the person, said Salt Lake City assistant police chief Tim Doubt.

[...]

She was dropped at just about 3 a.m. at the park in North Salt Lake that sits in a popular downtown area nestled between apartment complexes and restaurants. A police station is located up the street and the park is a popular spot for families and community events with two playgrounds, a basketball court, baseball diamond and a large, grassy field.

Police have no reason to doubt the Lyft driver's story and have cleared him as a suspect, Doubt said. The Lyft driver, whose identity has not been revealed, gave other rides after dropping off the woman, he said.

Lyft spokeswoman Lauren Alexander said the route the driver took contained no irregularities and ended at the address requested by Lueck.

Jacob Wood, who lives in the area, said he frequently brings his children to play in Hatch Park.

"It's a relatively safe neighborhood, there's no reason to believe it's not a safe area," he said Monday.

Ashley Fine, one of Lueck's friends, told The Salt Lake Tribune that Lueck's phone has been off since last Monday. She didn't show up for her job at a Salt Lake City laboratory or her classes, she said. Fine described Lueck as a dedicated student and said missing classes was not something she did.

Lueck's cat and car remain at her house. Her luggage hasn't been located either, Fine said.

Police release 'last known footage' of missing University of Utah student Mackenzie Lueck

[...]

Images taken from surveillance cameras at Salt Lake City International Airport showed Lueck at the airport between 2:09 and 2:40 a.m. June 17, about twenty minutes before a Lyft driver dropped her off at Hatch Park in North Salt Lake, police said.

"Over the course of approximately 31 minutes, Mackenzie walked from the jetway to catch the Lyft with a quick stop to pick up her luggage," Salt Lake City Assistant Police Chief Tim Doubt told reporters Tuesday. "She did not appear to talk to anyone in the airport."

“This is the last known footage we have of her,” he added.

[...]

We encourage the public to help us answer these lingering questions, such as who is the person she met at Hatch Park? Does Mackenzie have an alternate phone that she has used in the past or is using? Does she have social media accounts that we don't know about? Is anyone in contact with Mackenzie online currently or within the last week?"

[...]

He added that detectives continue to work “around the clock” on the case that is "a very high priority for us."

Police want more tips about MacKenzie Lueck's social media and phone activity
Salt Lake Police said they need more tips.

Specifically, about the missing college student's social media accounts and a second phone - if she has one.

[...]

Rob Joseph, a long-time private investigator in Salt Lake and former Salt Lake Police Officer, said he is familiar with many dating sites where young women seek dates with older men.

He often digs through the sites looking for unfaithful spouses for his clients.

When he head about MacKenzie's case, he began digging and found a profile that appears to be hers on one such site.

[...]

Joseph passed his findings on to police.

[...]

The site shows the last time she logged on was June 16 - one day before she went missing.

[...]

"That person is the last person that saw her," he said.

[...]

MacKenzie's profile says she wants to be spoiled. She suggests going hiking, bar hopping or visiting her favorite wine bar.

Joseph said many girls who visit these sites do so naively thinking they will connect with men who are honest not knowing the person on the other side of the computer is less than honest.
