What I find odd is that the police officer on the Moab Utah call said in the report GB was crying uncontrollably the whole time and rubbing her knees that he felt she was having a psychotic break why would he not suggest taking her to a hospital to be evaluated maybe even be put on some medication to get her stabilized instead of leaving her out there all alone by herself in that van where she could be harmed or harm herself. She admitted to anxiety and mental health issues unless he offered it and she refused but he can also put a mental health hold and take her in even if she refuses. The officers never wrote they offered her that in the report which to me wasn’t in the best interest of GP.

Maybe they should have actually reported on the actual truth of how "van life" can be. Traveling across country with the same person day after day in very close quarters is not easy at all! Not even for the relationship seasoned. Throw in attractive people posting all over the internet there's bound to be some tension, jealousy, money issues, immaturity, etc.

So... "that" is also a popular social media trend. Granted, not as popular as the sunshine and rainbows vibe, but there are plenty of people out on TikTok / YouTube / elsewhere that post their "van life" videos of them sleeping in Walmart parking lots, using dirty gas station restrooms, rain, cold, and so on. Some are funny, some informative, and some both.

I would think if they find her phone having pinged in Sacramento that would change the search publicly and take a lot of focus off of BL since he was across the country so shortly after that text went through. It would mean she could have really made it to California without him or the van and not just stay focused on Wyoming or Utah.
Not if he duct taped her phone under someone's bumper.

If he abandoned her in a dangerous place, driving off in her van, and she died, could that possibly be considered felony murder? Theft of a vehicle, leading to her death?

I imagine that’s stretching things too far, and in any case, I don’t think he abandoned her anywhere, alive.

MOO
I don't know, it might well be what he did. Angrily drove for a few miles without her then went back and couldn't find her so continued home thinking she'd got a lift and know wont talk because even if he did this, he will be viewed as an utter douche bag.

Well - it sure seems that the policeman noticed scratches in two places on Brian (he documents that). She cries the whole time, he can't get her version.

Witnesses (three of them) see the couple struggling over a cell phone (Gabby's?)

In the police report, Brian is listed as the "victim" and Gabby is the other party (can't remember the word - "assailant" I think).

The cop who stayed at the scene and helped keep Gabby from arrest or a ticket (one of which is mandatory in an actual DV incident in Utah). He states that she was crying the whole time, had her face in her hands, was rubbing her knees in agitation, and otherwise, I'd say "agitated" the entire time he was there. This is consistent with what the witnesses said, as well.

While police reports are not infallible, I trust them way more than the BF in this case. And I think the police acted in a kindly manner and did not cite Gabby. Instead, they let her go away in her own van (which seems to be part of the fight) and Brian has to go to a hotel (paid for by a domestic violence public interest group).

I just don't think most cops in Utah would risk their whole career by writing up lies that are so specific. But especially, not in Moab.

I do believe that it takes two to tango on public streets.

And next day, I don't think we see pictures of them jointly on her Insta, any more - not until Ogden (where it appears someone was holding the camera, presumably Brian). And Ogden is north of Salt Lake.

So, we have Moab to Salt Lake with no pictures (that I know of), then the hotel stay in Salt Lake while Brian flies home to do something with stuff that's in a storage unit, then flies back to SLC, where they take off north again (see picture of Gabby in Ogden). By August 25, Gabby is in Grand Tetons (according to what she says out loud to her mother).

Moab incident is August 12-13.

BBM
I think that is the beginning of the end --during this time.

Also of note-- a couple was murdered around that time Aug 13th-shortly after in same area, while out camping.

Possible no connection
but I do think the Moab incident started whatever happened to Gabby and the reason BL went home to FL alone.

For context, it takes 40 hours (according to google maps) to drive from California to Florida (based on the current traffic this late at night - might actually be longer). So in order for BL to have been in California with Gabby & get home the 1st (which we know he did), he had to make a 40 hour drive over 2 days, perhaps 2 1/2 depending on when the text was sent.

So he would have driven 2-3 14-20 hours nonstop, with no (known) record of hotels. Subtract a few hours if they were still in Utah or Wyoming.

Not impossible but highly improbable. I don’t believe it.

Overlaying Mike in WNY's maps of recent flight patterns (possibly search & rescue?) on a full map of Utah, with SLC and Ogden marked in yellow
I would not think these are S&R flights. Of all the places he would have dumped her, not Hanksville. It’s a popular stop for people going to Lake Powell and surrounding areas. Undoubtedly
Busy in early August. We camp in that area A LOT. If anything, these are probably tourist-type flights or locals. Highly unlikely they’d send planes at this point in the search as well unless they believed she was really there.

I think a lot of us here are surprised with the outcome of that interaction with police? By obtaining a hotel room for Brian, the officer was leaving her alone in a van at the entrance of the park? Did he ascertain that she had a campsite she was going to? Considering what he said about the state she was in, I'm surprised he took Brian away and left her there alone.

Someone earlier had posted that they had a campsite reservation on Aug 12th.

What happened to Gabby Petito? Private investigators say police are 'on the right track' focusing on the missing road tripper's boyfriend

Guillermo Hechevarria, a criminal investigator with Investigation Services Unlimited in Florida, said he believes Laundrie most likely left Petito alive somewhere in the Tetons. But he added that Laundrie retaining an attorney suggests to him that police also may want to look within a one-mile radius of Laundrie's parents' home for a body.
BBM
Well, that is a HUGE difference in opinion
MOST LIKELY---He left her alive out West.
OR--He could have put her body in FL once he got home.

Where does it say anything about the officer felt she was having a psychotic break?

Maybe her anxiety and mental health issues were a result of spending two years under the thumb of abusive and controlling boyfriend. Who knows what this person may have put her through?

Agree. And even more of a coincidence is what @Coquette posted that he has an IG post about the book Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk about a man who sets out on a road trip of sorts and becomes a serial killer. MOO

Yeah, that, too. And the wolf masked man. With a big fat "B" on his jacket. And blood all over his clothes. Yikes.

"...He needs to talk to us," Josh Taylor, a spokesperson for the North Port, Florida, police department, said in a news briefing. "We need to know exactly where he was, where she was, their last locations and that the fact that he was back here for 10 days. ... The family reported her missing 10 days later..."
Gabby Petito: Florida police are looking for missing 22-year-old ask for her boyfriend's cooperation - CNN

If BL is guilty of causing harm to Gabby, perhaps he'll realize it's in his best interest to heed the police as they now publicly urge him to speak with them.

IMO, hiding behind an attorney's counsel demonstrates a sorry lack of integrity and compassion. It has been BL's free choice to withhold requested information from Gabby's devastated family.

One would hope concern for his own future may spur him towards confessing all he knows of what transpired the last time he was with Gabby.

Usually there are a lot of. Restaurants around these hotels to walk.out and get.food yourself!

Was she outnof.$$$$$
Well if she was out of money, BL must have been out of money, too. Unless he was not sharing expenses. If he can leave his girlfriend stranded, and not assist in locating her or giving information to police, what’s a meal?

Yep it’s a 5150 hold police escort to be mentally evaluated by a physician in a hospital ER or a county mental health facility that’s here in CA
I did some work on this in grad school. In the US it is harder to initially take in, harder to hold, and harder to overcome evaluation and adjudication thresholds in 5150 type assessments and orders than any developed democracy. This is due to systematic ACLU cases in each of the US federal district courts from a couple of decades ago.
