I can’t help but think that the estranged husband must be raging. If he was involved, he would have thought that once Rebecca’s belongings were found on the river bank and no-one was able to locate her, that would be the end of it. It was set up for her dog getting into difficulty in the water and Rebecca jumping in to save him, before getting into difficulties herself and sadly drowning.

He’ll be even more angry than it is strong and determined women who aren’t accepting this narrative. If he has silenced Rebecca, he knows now that her family are just as strong and brave as Rebecca was. I hope he also knows that Websleuths is filled with people just as determined that justice is done, no matter how hard it is and how long it takes.

What is the corresponding point on the highway, 10 miles downstream, where Rebekah's dog was found on the riverbank?

With Thanksgiving coming up, have you thought of starting a campaign on Twitter to have Missoulans set an empty place at the Thanksgiving table for Rebekah? Holidays are hard after the loss of a loved one. It would be a nice way to honor her and remember that she needs to "come home" for the holidays.

I wanted to share some information for general purposes. In the first case, police were able to retrieve the bodies of three missing girls from a runoff-filled river in southern Alberta, Canada last year.

https://lethbridgenewsnow.com/2020/...from-swimming-trip-deceased-in-st-mary-river/

In the second instance, community members pulled together in a desperate search for a missing five-year-old in southern Alberta, along the banks of the Oldman River. He was found alive.

Southern Alberta woman claims to use power of heart and mind to find missing 5-year-old

Both of these cases involved missing children from close-knit communities. The outcomes were quite different, but the response was immediate and non-stop, despite difficult conditions.

Sorry to quote myself. I'm wondering if anyone here has made a map of all the relevant locations to Rebekah's disappearance.

In summary, the only "proof" of Rebekah being at the gas station where she was last "seen" is a sketchy, low-quality security video so poor that her clothing can't be seen, and which nobody is allowed to see; also a statement by someone close to the husband? This is not what I consider high quality information.

Let's start over and backtrack. When did Rebekah last use her bank card or credit card? When was she last seen by an independent witness, i.e., someone other than her husband and people in his circle? When did she last go to work or see someone who knew her?

Since no one "saw" Rebekah at the gas station in Superior, other than someone closely associated with RB's estranged husband, and a security video so poor as to be useless, but apparently also so useful as to be top secret, for police eyes only, can we consider that Rebekah might have gone to the marital home to collect her possessions?

Going alone to the marital home is something police where I live advise abused spouses never to do. It's far too dangerous. Instead, abused spouses are able to request a police escort, wherein they collect their possessions in safety.

I will not believe that Rebekah was at the gas station until proven otherwise, with facts and actual evidence. You know what I mean: credit card transactions, bank card transactions, witnesses who are not connected, a rest stop cam with date stamp and time, vehicle cam from a person not tied to the case showing Rebekah and not just her vehicle, etc.

I noted that the bar in Superior where Rebekah's estranged husband has ties is a three-minute drive from where Rebekah was last "seen", or a 15-minute walk.

I find it odd that the only possessions Rebekah had in the marital home were a few items that fit in a bag. After six years of marriage? Really?

And about that cellphone footage of Rebekah playing with her dog at the river, what was the date and time stamp on that? Oh, right, nobody's business, so please stop asking.

When was Rebekah last seen in real life?

Just thinking of a cross-Canada manhunt a couple of years ago. I was impressed by the high-quality digital security footage in remote places like Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan and Fort Nelson, B.C. Clips of this footage were released to the public.

It makes sense that even small-town gas stations have high-grade security cameras. Insurance companies insist on it. Businesses that are part of a chain also have security audits by head office. So we're supposed to believe that a chain gas station on the I-90 has flaky, outdated cameras operating on antiquated VHS or something? The chain has had frequent robberies. I checked the news. More likely the security footage is digital, stored on the cloud. Sometimes such footage can't even be touched by anyone except at head office.

This is not real life in 2021.

I wanted to learn more about the Alberton Rest Area, so I found its FB page. Seems this is a popular area for photographers, and photographers with drones. Drones, hmm. That could be useful. That river is wicked during spring runoff.

I have reached out to drone operators through a fb group and most will not assist without LE invite. We have the same problem with cadaver dog and handlers. We can't find any paid drone operators or paid cadaver dogs.

This is approximately 10 miles down river from Alberton Rock Climbing area where Rebekah's personal items were found on the river bank. I'm not sure how many highway miles that is. LE entered the river from Tariko Fishing Access which is Exit 66. They headed east and found the dog. I would guess the I90 mile marker is probably 68-69?

Not to my knowledge.

You raise very good points. Unfortunately, I don't have any answers.

More good points. Sadly, LE won't cooperate with any of these type questions. So they get tucked away as great points for a future civil action against Mineral and Missoula Counties.

I do not believe that RB and her dog accidentally drowned in the Clark Ford River that July afternoon. There are too many factors that point to the involvement of her abusive, estranged husband DB in her disappearance. In this post, I examine if DB’s involvement is feasible and if so attempt to come up with possible scenarios that fit with the facts and timeline as we know it. I exclusively refer to the abductor as DB, although it is certainly possible that he could have arranged for someone else to do his dirty work. I apologize to @laurawlms in advance if I have made mistakes in the narrative or have been too graphic in its depiction. I hope she will make corrections and additions and relate any other scenarios she or the family have entertained. Hopefully this info will help with a future investigation by private investigators or be useful in any future civil litigations. Of course, this is pure speculation and MOO.

If RB was abducted, we know that it had to be at the Alberton Rest Area Eastbound on I-90. We know she was there, because her phone pinged there and it contained video of her training her dog there that afternoon by the Clark Fork River by the Alberton Rocks Climbing Area. Also, her car was found in the rest area parking lot after her disappearance. So how did DB know she would be there? The most likely explanation is that the caretaker who met RB at the Town Pump in Superior tipped DB off to RB’s plan to stop along the way home to exercise her dog. RB may have mentioned her afternoon plans to the caretaker during their small talk about her trip to Superior. To me, the caretaker’s involvement explains their willingness to provide an alibi for DB.

RB was last seen at 2:15 PM at the Town Pump in Superior. According to Google Maps it is a 23 min drive from the Town Pump to the Alberton Rest Area on I-90. If she left the Town Pump soon after 2:15 PM, she would have arrived at her destination sometime around 2:45 PM. Her vehicle was found in the upper parking lot of the rest area and it looks as if she walked the long way to the beach on the East side of the climbing rock. That is where her personal belongings were found and apparently where the dog training video was shot. It is not known how long RB planned to stay at the rocks. She was on her way home to Missoula and it might be surmised that she was only planning to stay for 60 to 90 min. She was there until at least 3:15 PM when her cell phone pinged for the last time.

If DB encountered RB at the Alberton Rocks area, exactly where and when did this occur and what happened next? In the first scenario, DB tracks down RB at the beach on the river bank where he overpowers RB and her dog and drowns them in the river. This is an appealing scenario for two reasons. The first is that previously DB threatened to drown RB and her dog. And second, this would eliminate the need to stage her belongings at the beach, setting the scene that led LE to conclude RB and her dog disappeared as the result of an accidental drowning. There are several things that I think make this scenario highly unlikely. Six days after RB’s disappearance her dog was found deceased 10 miles downstream of the Alberton Rocks. This was much farther than the searchers anticipated. The Clark Fork has many bends and turns and with the likely presence of underwater tree limbs and debris it would be almost impossible for a large dog to travel that distance. A check of the USGS river gauge at St. Regis, Montana for July 10th shows that the river had returned to its normal 6 ft depth after the spring thaw and runoff and should have been flowing normally. Additionally, nearly 5 months later RB’s body has yet to be found after extensive searches of the river. Perhaps a more compelling reason to discount this scenario is that the Alberton Rocks is a very popular recreation area and it seems implausible that no one saw RB or her dog enter the river. Now it is possible the weather that day was stormy and there were few people at the beach. A potential wrinkle to this scenario would have DB encounter RB and her dog at the beach and then force them up the hill and into his vehicle.

The second scenario has DB waiting in the parking lot until RB and her dog return to her car. He then abducts them and forces them into his vehicle. He either attacks one or both of them there or transports them elsewhere. In either case he would have to return to the beach at some point to stage her belongs as she would have brought them with her back to her car. I think it is unlikely that he left RB and her dog in his vehicle in the parking lot to stage the items as it is too exposed to the public. I have proposed an alternative scenario up thread which I will briefly re-outline here. If he abducted RB and her dog from the rest area, he likely left and headed west toward Superior. I suspect he is familiar with the area and left I-90 at Exit 66, Fish Creek Rd. A right on Fish Creek Rd would lead him to Old Highway 10 W, a lightly traveled road. A left onto Old Highway 10 W leads to the Triple Bridges, the perfect spot to dump a dead/murdered dog into the Clark Fork River from a car. The distance from the Triple Bridges to the Rock Creek beach where the dog was found seems about the right distance for the dog to travel downstream. At that point I think DB makes a plan. He decides to hide RB's body and then return to the Albertson rocks to stage her belongings on the beach. From Old Highway 10 W, he could have turned right on Perkins Creek Rd and then right again on Road No. 459. Road No. 459 is a small, rural road that circles back eastward to I-90 (via Mead Ln) not far from the Alberton Rocks. It is remote, and in my opinion, would be the perfect place to hide a body. Specifically, there several turnoffs leading up forested ravines that would provide cover for anyone doing something nefarious. Of course, there are any number of other places he could have dumped the dog and hidden RB and other routes he could have used to return to the beach. He would have had enough time to carry this out as the abduction likely occurred about 4 PM and the 911 call reporting her clothes at the beach was reportedly placed at 5:30 PM. It is also possible that he kept RB for some time and hid her on his property in Superior (which has never been searched) or carried her off to distant parts unknown.

This a particularly heartbreaking case. I hope RB is united with her family soon and justice is served if warranted. Again all of this is MOO.

Thank you for putting that together, both are very helpful narratives to follow. Since Rebekah has been missing for so long, I admit the information I receive has become more limited. I don't know much more than the original facts I stated in my first post here. All I can keep thinking is somebody knows something. The reward was raised to $12,000.00. We have attempted to reach out to the Oregon family that called 911 with no luck. I still haven't received a recording or transcript of that call that I requested under FOIA. We don't think there is an Oregon family. So who called 911? Do they hold the key to any answers? Why is LE so uncooperative? Why do they insist on only their one scenerio? I always thought LE looked at all angles. Everything should be on the table right now. It simply appears LE is not interested in finding Rebekah. Why not?

Just thinking: If someone had orchestrated a scenario and needed it to play out according to plan, they would need to establish a timeline to corroborate their alibi. Maybe a burner phone was involved, and someone claimed to be "just stopping at a perfectly normal highway rest stop, with my perfectly normal Oregon family, when what to my wondering eyes should appear..."

911 centres unmask blocked phone numbers, so police should have the phone number of the person who called. I bet if they tried to call it now, it wouldn't work. I bet this "family" didn't stick around and wait for them to arrive.

In theory, if enough players were involved, sooner or later this plan will fall apart. Even if someone without a conscience was orchestrating this whole thing, other people do have consciences, and sooner or later one of them will crack under pressure. I'm half expecting Santa Claus to pop down the chimney as the grand denouement for this tale that has been spun. So much of this story relies on believing in things that cannot be seen or heard.

There is a flaw in this story, and here it is: Cerberus.

How accommodating pets in domestic violence shelters is helping save lives

“We say to police officers, if you go into a domestic violence situation, look for signs of animal abuse because evidence shows they likely coexist, and to flip that around, if you are responding to an animal abuse case, look for signs of domestic violence and child abuse.”

Women's shelters in some locations offer pet safekeeping programs. Women and children are targets of domestic abuse, but so are their pets. This is not incidental to abuse. It is the key to abuse, as fear of harm to pets is used by abusers to control their victims. This is widely known now among shelter staff, less so among police and judges.

Why was Cerberus threatened? Why did Cerberus die? Rebekah loved Cerberus.
