Asia has made some advances in dealing with sex-related tourism, however the trade has increased in the Americas, to include 2,000 children that are said to be sexually exploited in 600 different brothels in Guatemala and an almost unbelievable 500,000 girls working as prostitutes in Brazil. Latin America is a transit point for trafficking women to Europe, North America and Australia. 100,000 women from former Soviet states are annually tricked into traveling with the promise of work as a domestic or in some other service related occupation, when in reality their passports are taken from them, they do not know the local language or culture where they arrive, and they are forced into prostitution to pay their traffickers' fee, often beaten and held in seclusion while they "work off" their debt. Interpol says 35,000 women are trafficked out of Colombia every year and that Mexico has as many as 20,000 child victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

Unbelievable statistics

Even though some close to the investigation have said that organized crime is not involved, with revenue of seven BILLION dollars a year, one has to wonder, JMHO

And again, this forum is the only place where I have seen it said organized crime is not believed to be involved. As in the multiple tv shows and interviews with family it seems that organized crime is the sole discussed topic, such as sex trafficking. So again, don't know what to think.

I know what you mean. From everything I have read, human traffickers are organized crime. They seem to be considered one and the same.

Organized crime - profiting from the exploitation of human beings
The exploitation of human beings can be highly lucrative for organized criminal groups. Although figures vary, an estimate from the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2005 indicated that about 2.4 million people are victims of trafficking at any given time, and that profits from trafficking are about $32 billion per year. [1] Recent research on overall forced labour trends however would suggest that the scope of the problem is much bigger. [2] Human trafficking is one of the most lucrative illicit businesses in Europe, with criminal groups making about $3 billion from it per year, [3] making it a considerable criminal business that preys on the world's most marginalized persons.

Confronting Transnational Organized Crime and Human Trafficking in a Global Society

Yep, human trafficking is definitely organized crime. It has been talked about by Amy's family multiple times in a public manner, and that is actually the only topic I've ever heard discussed now that I think about it. But we have been told that sex trafficking is also not involved. But we have pictures of Amy on sex sites in sexual positions. And we were led to sleuth people that are involved in the sex industry. SO CONFUSED!! :banghead:

Also I don't know of any other case where a person is kidnapped in a different country, have been sited multiple times accompanied by handlers, with some of the sitings being in different countries also. If that's not organized crime then I don't know how to explain that.

I wonder if any of these people have anything in common with Amy, other than being missing?

This thread was so "hot" a few months ago. And now? Oh, Amy...where are you? If only we could come get you. If only it were that easy. :/

anyone remember where Amy worked as a waitress?

Just found this thread tonight...but have followed Amy's story for years. As always, WS members are doing great work! Thanks for your efforts.

Going back to read the earlier threads.

Also bumping for Amy and keeping her in mind.
It would be great to have this thread up and hopping again!

For anyone who might be interested, here is a list of films concerning persons who have seemingly and mysteriously vanished, ( including from a cruise ship) includes older flicks to recent ones. I might check out a few to see if they spark any new ideas about Amy.

"Tricky thrillers that feature a character who mysteriously vanishes and the sub-sequential denial of that character's existence by others... often leaving the one and only character who knows of that person's existence to ask - am I crazy or is there a conspiracy?

Not to be confused with missing person mysteries or anything of that ilk, this is a list which is very specific in its requirements - a person needs to vanish, at least one person needs to realize that the said person has vanished, and other characters need to deny the character ever existed or was there."

You're welcome, I love films whether old or new, foreign or domestic- going to find some on this list for sure.Thinking about how after "sleuthing" Amy for sometime,I spotted a heart-shaped fence (very similiar to the head-board we were looking for) in a scene from movie about John Lennon's childhood!

Wrought iron headboard. Definitely better quality than the one in question which has brass. Just thought it was interesting, this place is on Margarita Island - Playa el Agua off the coast of Venezuela. The island has been mentioned several times early on as a place of interest.
