GUILTY ND - Jack Sjol, 58, Williston, 24 April 2013

I drive past Jack's place when I go to Williston. The Williams County Sheriff's Dept discovered a body this morning while conducting a search warrant of a building 7 miles east of town. The body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner's office for identification and autopsy.

If the car still exists above ground it almost certainly would have been spotted by now. Hunters, particularly during deer and pheasant seasons, walk almost every square foot of wooded area. Even land that is posted "No Hunting, No Trespassing" will eventually be covered by someone who ignored...

An interesting, and rather accurate, article about Williston as it is now. Sherry is mentioned. http://www.mensjournal.com/magazine/print-view/greetings-from-williston-north-dakota-20120713

I'd be in favor of letting them bond out, for perhaps $1,500. Then when bond is posted the sheriff could announce that they will be released at midnight behind the court house. Then when they do not show up for trial, oh well. Sherry would remain a "cold case," but really not very cold at all.

I was disappointed to hear that. But it makes sense. It's one less reason for them to ask for an appeal someday in the future. In the mean time those two sit in jail, knowing that eventually they will get the needle.

Identified! OH - Troy, Miami Co., 'Buckskin Girl' WhtFem 133UFOH, 15-25, Apr'81 - Marcia King

Williston is an oil town. During the late 70's and early 80's there was a huge influx of people from all over the country. It's an area where in normal times crime is rare, but during the oil booms there are so many people pouring into the area that law enforcement can't keep up. Things were...

April of 1981 was the height of the previous oil boom in Williston. Then, as now, we had people constantly coming and going from everywhere in the USA and Canada.

Thank you. The tiny amount of Indian blood I carry is Mi'kmaq, so I feel a kinship to her. And when I was a very young cop in Indian Country I learned under the watchful eye of a former BIA officer who had been at Pine Ridge during the early to mid 1970s. He told me much about the case, although...

If they were not certain it was her they would not have made the announcement. Her body has been sent away for positive identification. That will probably take a day or two. They said she was found this morning following an all night search. Apperently they had finally been able to determine...

I briefly worked in the oilfield back in the 80s but lost my job because I didn't quite understand what to do. I have degrees in psychology and special education. I do hope that someone charges Harry Spell and the others who were trying to facilitate his escape. His excuses are so very lame.

That surprised me too. I had been attempting yard work that week and my ground was solid. My brother had tried to dig some gravel at our old gravel pit near Williston and had the same luck I had.
