The daughter of a Hemet woman who went missing a week ago and whose traveling companion was found dead on the Soboba Indian Reservation said Monday she fears her mother was a witness to murder and suffered dire consequences.

Kathleen Ann Haney, 56, was last seen on the night of Jan. 22, when she drove her daughter’s friend, 27-year-old Kyle Nathan Cagey of Pala, to the Soboba Casino.

The day after a vehicle was found engulfed in flames in a riverbed east of Castille Canyon, sheriff’s officials announced the discovery of a body near where the burnt-out vehicle had been located.

The area where the burned vehicle and body were found is part of the Soboba Indian Reservation in an unincorporated area of Hemet...

The following afternoon, at about 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, “sheriff’s investigators were summoned to an area east of Castille Canyon on the Soboba Reservation after a body was found in the riverbed,” Mendez explained.

Responding deputies located and positively identified Cagey as the deceased victim. Based on evidence at the scene, officials determined Cagey did not appear to have died of natural causes.

OMG!

And where is this Kyle Cagey? Also missing?

Cagey’s remains were found in a riverbed east of Castille Canyon. He had been murdered, though Riverside County sheriff’s officials declined to disclose how.

Her daughter said Cagey and her mother had gone to the casino so that he could obtain money from a relative, but that person was apparently a no- show. Investigators have assured her they’re following up leads, but they’re no longer looking for her mother on the reservation.

“I don’t understand why,” she said.

MISSING HEMET WOMAN'S VAN FOUND ON FIRE AT SOBOBA INDIAN RESERVATION

A daughter desperate to find her missing mother said the search for the Hemet woman was suspended after her van was found on fire at the Soboba Indian Reservation in Riverside County.

Michelle Haney said it's been more than a week since anyone heard from her mother, Kathleen Haney.

"I just want my mom back, whether it's dead or alive," Michelle Haney said.

Kathleen Haney's van was discovered on fire on the Soboba Indian Reservation on Jan. 23.

The body of her daughter's boyfriend, 26-year-old Kyle Cagey, was found the following day.

Not looking good :(

It appears, by the article that Kyles aunt was recently gunned down as well.
Perhaps the daughter is right about her mother witnessing Kyles murder and was collateral damage.

She is still missing, and her family still doesn't have any answers. I am a local and have followed this case very closely. People are starting to get impatient and there is talk of forming a search party, but unfortunately no one is allowed on the reservation except the natives. Also talk about getting some drones out there. It definitely does not look good.

The comment I saw was regarding the text sent to the daughter. I hope she reported them to LE, if the comment is true. The comment mentions Sabina res. I assume it autocorrected from Soboba res. There are definitely orange groves in the area. I'm not sure if there are any on the reservation. There are lots of coyotes in the area. :-( I do not know if those texts are true, but I think she will be found on the res. I'm just not sure why should not have been found with her companion.

I don't know if others are allowed to search there. And if this was a "res political" murder, they wouldn't be inclined to allow it:

I'm very familiar with this res and I don't think it was political in the sense I believe you are referring to. I have my thoughts on what happened, but I will refrain from posting them on a public forum. All I will say is that this is far from the first time something like this has happened there and many people in town don't think highly of the res.
