Well, I'm from Budapest. There are some articles around about him online, I'll try to post some of the informations missing from the Daily Mail article.

Some points:
1. 1 May is Labor Day. It's international holiday worldwide. It's not a Hungarian speciality. There were a lot of festivities on that day on multiple locations, with road closures and a giant crowd.
2. According to the articles I linked he came here as a member of a group of 22 for a bachelor party, and went missing soon after arrival. was last seen 20 minutes to 10 pm getting into a cab at the Morrisons 2 bar. Cabs are organised in Hungary, they all look the same (yellow), so random cars can not be mistaken for a taxi. The drivers are registered. I don't see much possibility for a cab driver to commit a crime without being found out very quickly. The street (Szent István körút) is a well lit, wide, crowded street with tram line operating 24 hours per day. I, as a woman, would walk it during the night without fear. I have never been to this bar though and have never been a party girl, so I'm not sure how wild this place actually is. Can get opinions of it from friends if needed, though.

3. He did not have his passport with him only phone which goes to mailbox. Hospitals and police have already been checked without success.
4. The fact, that the Hungarian police isn't really willing to cooperate, is mentioned in every article. Sadly, I can see this being true quite easily. In one of the articles is a CCTV footage of him getting into the cab is mentioned, but the police seemingly does not succeeded in getting hold of it till now.
5. There was a case a few years back in Budapest, a young French Erasmus student went missing. Her parents were some kind of diplomats, the case got a big publicity. She was sadly found in the Danube weeks later and is was ruled as an accidental drowning if I remember correctly.
6. MO based on my local knowledge: If he is in a hospital, he would have been found by now. Hospital stuff does not really speak English here, so he would stand out. Cab drivers are very unlikely to get into a crime that involves Englich tourists - much too risky. Drugs would be a possibility or robbery went wrong.
