It'd be surprising to me if he didn't follow other shooters. Unfortunately I don't think computer will show anything, since AL supposedly smashed it.

I find it very interesting that he destroyed his hard drives. He knew the police would be looking. He knew he wasn't coming back to the house.
I wonder what else was destroyed prior to Friday.

What would be on there he wouldn't want somebody to see. Why would he care if the police knew he had followed other shootings. I am leaning towards something more personal but I can't put my finger on it just yet.

While i do hold the belief that Violent games etc. do desensitize us in general I don't believe they encourage anyone to kill. Unless your mind is already dysfunctional. Whether it be games or music. Killers of this nature always seem to latch onto something. Sadly. Is he sick? Or just pure evil?

DD - me to about the house last night. I still kinda think that maybe they found a panic/safe room or hidden storage room or hidden wall/floor safe - something along those lines. And that the 2 hours was what they needed to search, catalog, document - whatever it was that was in there.

IF (BIG IF - and JMHO) she was a prepper - I have wondered about gold, silver, precious metals. I know a lot - I mean A LOT and most all of them definitely NOT preppers that have taken to investing in gold and have had hidden safes installed to keep it. So who knows? But, yes that rushed trip back to the house last night was very very intriguing.................

Hi WOO! :seeya:

Good thinking.

It's the "in a hurry" that has me the most confused. What could be of a timely/sensitive/emergency-type hurry?

The Champion family also issued a statement to “express our heartfelt sorrow for the incomprehensible and profound loss of innocence.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/local...8eb0-4890-11e2-ad54-580638ede391_story_1.html

Is the whole statement available somewhere?
“The family of Nancy Lanza shares the grief of a community and the nation as we struggle to comprehend the tremendous loss that we all share. Our hearts and prayers are with those who share in this loss; their families, teachers, staff and students of the Sandy Hook Elementary School, the first responders and to all others touched by this tragedy. On behalf of Nancy’s mother and siblings, we reach out to the community of Newtown and express our heartfelt sorrow for this incomprehensible and profound loss of innocence that has affected so many.”

It's like the articles are implying that no one wants to deal with NL's remains - when in fact her body is at the moment supposed to be just where it is. Odd.

Also, when her body is released, who has the legal authority to plan for its disposition -- burial or cremation or something else? Since she's divorced, I'm assuming her adult son is her legal next-of-kin, but he's a young guy who may have no idea what to do or how to do it. He's dealing with a lot of emotions right now, too. I hope the family is able to pull together a way to honor her memory without making it a media event.

It is surprising to me that he would care about his hard drive being found, if he knew in fact he planned to die that day.

Doesn't surprise me. If he didn't even like to have his photo taken, then he wouldn't want people to be digging through his computer.

I am mostly a lurker here, love the work you people at WS due - outstanding and always up-to-date.

I keep reading like everyone else, sick of heart, and wanting to know what drove this "shooter" to do such a thing. I just read that he wasn't on any medication they think and I have to ask myself "Where is his father in all this"? Shouldn't his father be able to give some in-sight. I know they were divorced, but did he spend anytime with his son?

Maybe some of you are right about bombs:

Before law-enforcement officers entered the large colonial home Lanza shared with his mother, they used a robot to search for explosive devices. “There was no indication of booby traps,” said the source.

Since AL smashed the computers, spent most of his time on them, and appeared very bright, I am now wondering if he wiped the hard drives before smashing. I hope not, or if he did, I hope he was unaware that most of the free programs for that do not work so well and trained specialists can find whatever he did not want them to.

There was a quote in the previous thread saying that the killer took the divorce hard and refused all contact with his father after the divorce although the father was trying. So I don't imagine that he knows much about what was going on very recently.

I wonder if the smashing of the hard drives was symbolic somehow. He didn't go quite as far as throw away the pieces in an unrelated dumpster or a ditch or a bush somewhere; that would have made almost 100% certain that the police never find the pieces, let alone dig up any information on those destroyed hard drives.

IMO, Seems, AL had meticulously pre-planned this horrific crime, right down to his intended child victims; the most vulnerable and innocent among us. The Sandy Hook CT elementary school shooting wasn't an impulsive act, imo, indicated by his attempt to purchase weapons days before, murdering his mom; NL preceding the attack, and concluding his evil, savage, and extremely sadistic act..
We are all trying to make sense of this senseless act. Not sure that we will ever know the why. Recently when prolific serial killer Israel Keyes, was asked by interrogators why he killed. His response was, "why not"...

It's just a little sad that there are thousands of popular video games that deal with killing and shooting and destroying and practically none that I can think of that you can win by displaying altruistic, prosocial behaviors, cooperating with others to help people in need and being considerate of others.

What's sad is that are parents who buy the games and don't monitor the usage.

I think a bigger factor in this case was the fact that Adam was withdrawn from school. I hope his IEP and MDT reports are released.

Saw in the earlier thread questions about how AL might have obtained his gear, protective vest and whatever else he had on when on the killing spree at Sandy Hook. Wouldn't you think his mom had stockpiled protective gear, if she was a "prepper"?

Jumping off your post ...

I wonder if there is a "prepper's" list of suggested items to store?

Hello All:
Please take the discussion regarding to spank or not to spank to the parenting forum.
Thank you.

I have been so impressed with how the media has handled this horrific tragedy. I like that for once i feel i know these children and adults. I remember their names. The killer not so much. As it should be :rose:

There are very many lists, and thousands of websites. The lists can be extremely extensive and could include weapons and bullet proof vests depending on which side of "prepper" you are on.
