He did get reward money and that was courtesy of Mark NeJ. This is what I understand and if I am wrong I ask that my friends here correct me.

He didn't get *the* reward money that was offered. MN gave him $5000 out of the goodness of his heart.

Seems to me he couldn't get *the* reward money because he was a county employee - but I could be wrong on that.
