"5 reasons why mothers kill their children" Patsy Ramsey vs. Andrea Yates

It's a classic ploy. But that dinosaur of a DA wouldn't go for it.

Absolutely, Coloradokares. I agree 100% with you and also with Blondie- I also feel certain that if the R had been separated and questioned immediately after the body was found, there would be no need for this board or others like it. One of them would have talked. Steve Thomas felt this way, too. It was why he pushed to do that very thing.

It boggles the mind how this was not done with a dead child in the basement and the father finding the child. And Arndt - wasn't she the one who supposedly was the "detective to have on the case". She was pathetic. I could have done a better job after a night on the town and no sleep. She was totally intimidated by the whole scene and the she is the supposedly seasoned detective who is going to help them through the "kidnapping". One reads Thomas' book and when you are nearing the end, you can barely take anymore.

The word went out early. I am convinced of it. These are wealthy people - take it very easy.

Not just that they were wealthy people. They were wealthy people who had powerful connections - through their lawyers- from the Governor's Office right up to the Clinton White House. These were people with the ways and means to get away with murder and to make life hell for anyone who tried to go after them.

Actually, at first the police did think this was a kidnapping. Arndt was sent because she was a rape victim specialist, and though they were not dealing with a rape, Arndt was known to be very sympathetic when dealing with the victims. They felt she'd be a good detective to deal sensitively with the mother of a kidnapped little girl. The other reason is that she was available that day.

I guess I am not a "layperson". I am just stating my opinion.

Hey Michelle...would you mind telling us your theory? I am a BDI / PDI, but I love to read other theories, mostly to see if I forgot any facts that may change my mind.

Hi DD,

I know they thought it was a kidnapping at first, however, Arndt NEVER ever should have let John out of her sight and according to her deposition he was out of her sight for over an hour - I think it is from 10:30 to 12. Dee, this is basic stuff. John doesn't go anywhere for an hour while I am there. No where.

And they are all in one room and DO NOT TOUCH A THING. NOTHING.
This is a kidnapping so they say - it could easily have been explained to John and he would have had to listen - keep you wife and friends in that sunroom and do not move until I ask for your help. I think the average pedestrian on a New York Street is more savvy than Detective Arndt. She is an IDI's dream come true.

Yes, she was. She also had a gun- and with that she could have certainly kept them in line. She blew it big time that day and changed the course of the investigation irrevocably. But until the body was "found", she was operating under the instructions from her superiors that these people were "victims" and she was unaware it was a murder and not a kidnapping. I am sure she must have seen something in the R behavior that made her suspicious. But she lost control of the situation very early on.

what's almost as bad is that LA won't even admit she made some vital mistakes that day.

Sad, isn't it? When she decided to sue her former employers for defamation and for making her the scapegoat, she also got "amnesia" about the case. That was as much to prepare for a future book as it was to limit her cooperation wit LE at that point.
Anyone know what she's doing now, in 2008? She isn't writing a book, as far as I know.
