The forecast models continue to gain consensus for a possible hurricane at the LA coast this weekend. Begin preparations if you are in the possible path from the Florida panhandle to the LA/TX border. The NHC has an 80% confidence rate while 4 models spin up a Cat 1/2 cane by Saturday.

Wherever this thing lands, someone is dealing with major flooding. The hot pink area is landfall, currently LA, with significant impacts to New Orleans. This area show a 17 to 25 inches of rain.....begin preparing if you live in the Florida panhandle to LA. Once it spins up, we will know more about location.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

A broad low pressure area located over the Florida Panhandle and
the far northeastern Gulf of Mexico is producing widespread but
disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions
are conducive for development, and a tropical depression is expected
to form late Wednesday or Thursday while the low moves slowly
westward across the northern Gulf of Mexico. Tropical Storm,
Hurricane and Storm Surge Watches could be required for a portion of
the northern Gulf Coast on Wednesday. An Air Force Reserve Unit
reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance
tomorrow afternoon. In addition, this disturbance has the potential
to produce heavy rainfall from the Upper Texas Coast to the Florida
Panhandle during the next several days, and interests in those areas
should continue to monitor the progress of this system. For more
information, please see products issued by your local weather
forecast office and the NOAA Weather Prediction Center.

Some of the rainfall totals in Jefferson Parish this morning, via @JeffParishGov Five different areas saw more than 6 inches of rain by 10:45 a.m. ... Bridge City got his the hardest at 7.75.

I am in North Louisiana, and our city is expecting some evacuees tomorrow from a couple of Southern parishes. A large shelter was set up here today.

My thoughts and sympathies are with the people of New Orleans after the street flooding of this morning and today.

Hopefully Barry will turn out to be just a bad storm and not a hurricane.

Anyone searching for a thread on "Tropical Storm Barry" in Louisiana might not recognize that this thread is for that storm.

Whatever the name, I'm watching the forecast and hoping for the best scenario for everyone - and hoping our WSers in the path of the storm are safe.

Local here..Jeff Davis parish. We have been told to expect tropical storm conditions wind already starting rain coming soon. We are on ‘better’ side. Relatives in Lafayette & NOLA (who, in astounding feats of gallows humor, are making lines for champagne, finger sandwiches and bourbon. Water?? For bathing.) are on the ‘dirty’ side. I.e., worse wind, surge, damage, flooding.
