WTHR is there.

And FOX 59

Thank you @twall!

I’m in Allen County today for a hearing in the 2017 Delphi murder case. A trial for Richard Allen, the man accused in the killing of two teen girls in the rural Indiana town, is set to begin next week.

Here’s more on today’s hearing from @bykristinep

No electronics in the courthouse so I’ll have to report back afterwards. The hearing is set to being at 9 a.m. The first supporter of the victims’ families lined up outside the courthouse around 5:30 a.m. this morning, I’m told.
Thanks @arielilane !

Allen was moved from Wabash Valley Correctional Facility to the Allen County Jail this week ahead of the hearing. As a result, a new booking photo was taken.'

''Gull said the trial will go six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, with jurors and attorneys given Sunday off.
Tuesday’s hearing is set for 9 a.m.''

FT. WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — The doors at the Allen County courthouse opened at 8:03 a.m. Tuesday to welcome in those waiting outside to attend the special hearing for Delphi murders suspect Richard Allen.

Allen, 51, of Delphi, was arrested on Oct. 28, 2022, for the February 2017 murders of 13-year-old Abigail “Abby” Williams and 14-year-old Liberty “Libby” German near the Monon High Bridge in Delphi.

Tuesday’s 9 a.m. hearing, ordered by special Judge Frances Gull, will discuss motions filed by prosecutors in the case asking for pieces of the defense’s argument not to be allowed before the jury.

9 A.M.

The motions hearing for Allen has started.

8:40 A.M.

Court records show that shortly before the hearing’s start at 9 a.m., Judge Gull issued an order granting stipulated protection, which governs the handling of protected information in the case.

8:35 A.M.

While it is quiet outside of the courthouse, a group of Allen County deputies have exited the building. It is unclear if these deputies are the ones who have escorted Richard Allen through the tunnel beneath the courthouse.

I get that this is the Bible Belt, but no Shabbat? Is JG trying to keep practicing Jews out of the jury pool?

Indiana is the Bible Belt?

Interesting observation. I would assume it didn't even occur to her, but what happens if they do get a Jew? Is Shabbat something that's observed every Saturday? I know I can Google that :).

Northern Indiana is not part of the Bible Belt.

As for the religious aspect JG has previously stated-Gull confirmed Allen’s trial will take place six days a week — Monday through Saturday — if there are no religious objections from any of the jurors.

What Is Shabbat?
I suppose if the state was to declare that they are seeking the DP it could fall under the saving a human life in danger permission/exception - Pikuach Nefesh.

JG scheduled the trial for 5 weeks!

The trial has been called off until October 14 – November 15.

I don't think this will result in a plea. The defense found out they needed more time because of the slow trickling of Discovery from the State, including the latest.....those pesky phone pings and lack thereof.

There was no other choice in order for the trial to be fair.

Glad to see there's more time scheduled! It needed to be longer.
