Deceased/Not Found AR - Christina Richart, 14, Ozark, 1 June 1999 *W. Richart guilty*

She was 5'5" and 125 pounds. You would think she could have put up quite a fight, but maybe there was a weapon involved. They came up with quite a story to cover their crime. I am glad they have been charged. They should have turned her over to Child Protective Services if they couldn't handle her. I think maybe it was one one the other children who grew up and told what happened.

Those poor children, they were probably abused from the time they
went to live those horrid people. I doubt seriously that this was the
first time violence took place & ended up in murder. I feel terrible for her brother, to have heard his sister's plea for help and not being able to do
anything to help her. I hope the aunt & uncle spend the rest of their lives in prison.:furious:

It makes me wonder if she wasn't being molested by the uncle and decided to tell someone. Before she could do this, they killed her.

Yes, it does sound like one of the children finally talked. I bet there is so much more to this horrible story. :(

I don't know for sure, but if you are a kid..and someone is drowning your sister or cousin, what REALLY are you going to do? Besides of course sleep with one eye open and hoping you are not the next to die. Poor kids!

How sad. What the heck could this girl have done to enrage her aunt enough to murder her? Why didn't her uncle--her father's brother--do anything to help her? What a sick bunch. I hope that they spend the rest of their lives behinid bars.

SS - That was my first thought, that the uncle was molesting her; and the aunt decided to blame the girl for it. I'd like to see pictures of everyone involved in this murder.

Well, I still don't know anything else, even after reading the other article. If Christina is the girl I remember, before the murder, I assumed that she was their daughter, not their niece. And I do remember when the brother was removed from the home, and he was removed because he had a lot of problems, and he was placed in a home for developmentally disabled children in Dallas County. This was before the murder. I just wonder if Christina's other brother finally decided to tell someone the truth and that is why they authorities finally started investigating in 2005, only six small years later (sarcasm intented).
Perhaps, when the brother finally left their home and was no longer afraid, he went to police. They apparently were threatened. I can well imagine him being very afraid for his own life. I wonder if they left the other kids at home while they went to dispose of Christina and lied about where she was buried? Maybe, that's why they can't find her. :(

Tez - Is this a big woman? Did she seem like she had a temper? How about the man (the uncle)? What did he seem like?

My daughter is exactly that height & weight and she is also 14yrs old. Let me tell you this..If I were to fight my daughter I would have to fight her like a women! She is strong and there is no way it would be easy..She could probably drown me as easily as I could her.

This girl may have been afraid of her aunt and afraid to fight back. It didn't appear that anyone was willing to help her. I would have fought for my life; however, in her case, it sounds like she would have been fighting a losing battle. If she managed to make it out of the bathroom, she would then have been met and overpowered by her uncle. Sad, sad, sad...for this young girl.

eta: I just read that her uncle's nickname is "Bubba." I sure would like to see photos of these two murderers.

Nan, no she wasn't big when I knew her. You know, I have a real hard time understanding how she could drown her in the tub. However, my BIL was most likely held down and drowned by a woman smaller than he was. But, he was impaired at the time...I think she must have beat her in the head with something and then drowned her. Wanda didn't seem like she had a temper. She seemed really nice, but I didn't closely associate with her. My MIL knew her much better, and she is in SHOCK!!! Now, Bubba, he is just plain stupid....No other way to describe it.

I was thinking along these lines as well. Maybe they were caught and she blamed the girl and wanted to 'wash it all away'. In the struggle or in anger the aunt may have hit the girl's head and drowned her.

Ozark - A Kingsland woman has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading no contest to drowning her 14-year-old niece.

Fifty-two-year-old Wanda Faye Richart entered the plea to a second-degree murder charge in Franklin County Circuit Court. She had originally been charged with first-degree murder. She was accused of drowning 14-year-old Christina Richart in the bathtub of her home near Turner Bend during an argument. The girl's body has never been found.

Details of Disappearance

Christina was last seen in Ozark, Arkansas during the summer of 1999. She was reported missing from Fordyce, Arkansas; her family moved there shortly after her disappearance. She never re-enrolled in school for the fall of that year and has never been heard from again.

Christina was born in DeQueen, Arkansas and lived in Fordyce and in Idabel, Oklahoma during her childhood. One of her younger brothers died in 1993, and her father died of cancer in 1999.

She and her two surviving younger brothers went to live with their father's brother, Charles Walter "Bubba" Richart and his wife, Wanda Faye Richart, in 1997 because their mother was unable to care for them. Later that year, one of Christina's brothers was removed from the home by the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) after it was alleged that Wanda abused him.

Christina disappeared in 1999. In the spring of 2000, the DHS removed her other brother from Wanda and Charles's home due to abuse allegations. He was subsequently adopted by another family, and it was his adoptive mother that ultimately reported Christina missing in 2005.

Wanda and Charles told authorities Christina had gone to California voluntarily with a great-aunt. Charles said she had called them several times after her departure and sounded happy, but the calls stopped in April 2000. Investigators did not realize this story was untrue until 2005, six years after Christina's disappearance.

The Richarts continued to cash Social Security benefit checks for Christina for eighteen months after she went missing. In February 2008, authorities unsealed a federal indictment charging Wanda and Charles with making false statements to law enforcement about Christina's disappearance.

Early in 2008, Joann Holdman, who lived with the Richarts in 1999, came forward and told investigators that Christina was dead and she'd witnessed what happened. Holdman said Wanda and Christina had an argument that day. Wanda told Christina she needed a bath, forced her into the bathroom, shut the door and filled the tub.

Holdman heard splashing, crying and Wanda and Christina shouting at each other for about fifteen minutes. Then she heard a thud and Christina suddenly became silent. When the bathroom door opened, Christina was lying motionless in front of the bathtub. Holdman said she wasn't breathing and didn't have a pulse, and had a "mushy spot" on her head.

Holdman was 18 years old and pregnant at the time, and she said she didn't come forward with her information until 2008 because Wanda repeatedly threatened her life and the life of her child. She moved out of the house about a month after Christina's death.

Charles was held under house arrest awaiting trial and Wanda was incarcerated. In June 2008, Charles pleaded guilty to conspiring to make a false statement to the FBI and confessed he had buried Christina's body in the Ozark Forest.

Charles said he wasn't present when Christina died, wasn't aware Wanda had threatened other witnesses, and didn't conspire with Wanda to invent the story about Christina being in California. He admitted he had lied to FBI agents, however, and admitted he knew Wanda was lying to them.

Wanda was found guilty of two federal charges, including one count of conspiracy to make a false statement and one count of making a false statement, in December 2009 and sentenced to the maximum term of ten years in prison.

In January 2010, she pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, consecutive to her previous sentence. The court also found that Wanda Richart physically and sexually abused Christina and her brothers, and ordered her to participate in sex offender treatment and not have contact with minors after her release from prison.

Christina's body has never been recovered, but foul play is suspected in her case due to the circumstances involved.
