Gordon Alexander, 13 and Karen Alexander, 14
''TEXARKANA, Ark. - Advances in DNA technology are being used to help solve a more than 40-year-old double murder case in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Some community members started a social media page to find justice for two young siblings brutally murdered in their home in 1981.
The group's efforts have recently captured the attention of local police and a leading DNA company.

A small memorial sits in an empty grass lot where Karen Alexander, 14, and her brother Gordon, 13, lived in 1981.
The house on Baden Street is gone, but the community has not forgotten.

The Justice for Karen and Gordon Facebook Page was created in 2019 to shine a light back on the case.

The group was contacted by Texarkana native and leading DNA Genealogist Cheryl Hester last September.''

''She says the father, Weldon Alexander, came home from working a graveyard shift at Cooper Tire on April 8, 1981, to find his son brutally murdered and his daughter critically injured.

Karen lived three days in a coma before dying.

Detectives say both siblings had been stabbed multiple times by a knife believed to have been the murder weapon left at the scene.''

"My feeling on it is if we can get a good profile. We can bring this home," said Hester.

The siblings were home alone because their mother was in the hospital at the time of the attack.

Detectives say they're still actively following leads on the Alexander case.

Anyone with information, should contact the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department.''

''A teen-age girl and her wheelchair-bound brother were stabbed...

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- A teen-age girl and her wheelchair-bound brother were stabbed to death with a dull kitchen knife, a preliminary autopsy report shows. The girl died from a stab wound in her right eye that struck her brain.

Although the report Monday indicated the girl was not sexually assaulted, investigators said they still think rape was a motive in the deaths of Karen Alexander, 14, and her brother, Gordon, 13.''

''Miss Alexander lingered in a coma for three days and died late Saturday in a Texarkana hospital. Gordon died during the attack early Wednesday in their home, police said. Evidence suggests both knew the assailant.

'I still believe whoever went in that house went in to rape the girl or her mother, not knowing the mother wasn't home. Whoever it was went in through the front door, and the girl had changed out of her nightgown into shorts and a shirt, making us believe there was some kind of friendly atmosphere before the attack,' Capt. Jimmy Cowart said Monday.

Gordon, confined to a wheelchair by hip surgery, was stabbed 16 times in the face and neck, including one slash from ear to ear. The autopsy on his sister showed she had been strangled, beaten and stabbed several times in the face.''

''Seward said the team has submitted items for DNA testing to the Arkansas State Crime Lab and are waiting on results.

"We will more than likely have to submit items to a private lab when this is completed," Seward said.

A resurgence of interest in the case began in 2021 with the Facebook page "Justice for Karen and Gordon Alexander."

According to previous Gazette reports, the anonymous organizers of the page spend their own time and money researching the murders. Their efforts led to the organizers being contacted by a DNA company that is willing to help solve the case.

While time is hampering the investigation, those interested in seeing justice have not rested.

"We will not give up. There are so many things that we can't disclose on what we are doing. It is a very slow process, but we have to believe," Seward said.''

According to comments on other posts on the page, a post was made earlier today that someone was identified via DNA but won't be named as they're deceased. Law enforcement then asked that the post be removed. The name of the group has also been switched from "Justice For..." to "In Memory Of..."

I really disagree with a decision to not name a DNA-linked suspect.

I’m hoping the announcement is an arrest of the suspect; I don’t think they’d present a probable cause affidavit for a deceased individual. I wonder if they ever developed any solid suspects at the time (besides the false confession or Henry lee Lucas)? Was the butter knife used in the attack one that the killer found in the home?

Listened to the podcast, dont believe it was a butter knife just dull, but yes it came from the home.

I was just kicked off of the page after making a simple comment that the fund set up for the father back then no longer aged well. I believe the admin were somehow connected to the family, so I guess they're sensitive to anything at the moment. Their page count will drop on its own, though, as sadly I'm sure most were just cold case gawkers.

''TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department identified the father Waldon Alexander, as the sole suspect of the brutal 1981 Alexander siblings murder.

Karen, 14, and Gordon Alexander 13 were attacked in their home on April 8, 1981, in the Carmichael Hill area of Texarkana, Arkansas.

Texarkana Arkansas Police Department said the children were stabbed multiple times with a butter knife.

Detectives called it the worst crime scene any of them had seen.

Gordon died immediately and left Karen in a three-day coma and she later passed away on April 11. Her injuries showed she was a victim of sexual assault and was penetrated numerous times within the 48 hours before her death.''

TAPD found semen stains on the bedding which led forensic scientist specialists to Waldon. Investigators discovered Karen had been sexually assaulted over a six-month period before the murder.''

''Weldon Alexander was the last known person to see his victims alive, and likely sexually assaulted Karen before leaving for his graveyard shift at Cooper Tire.

At the time of the murder, their mother Vera Jeanette Lynch Alexander was in the hospital.''
