She was also charged with the grievous bodily harm and torture of another woman, 25, along with several fraud offences and armed robbery.[/FONT][FONT=&amp]Crabtree was arrested in the Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo earlier today after new information was provided to detectives suggesting Erin and Jonathan’s deaths — which were originally deemed suicides — were suspicious. A suicide note was found after Jonathan died but police will allege his mother prepared the note.[/FONT]​

‘A Gold Coast mother accused of killing two of her children was "financially motivated" in carrying out "premeditated direct acts of murder", police have alleged.

Maree Crabtree, 51, was arrested at a house in the Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo on Wednesday and later charged with two counts of murder, one count of torture and one of grievous bodily harm.

Police said Ms Crabtree's 18-year-old daughter Erin was found dead at an address in Maudsland in 2012, and the body of her 26-year-old son Jonathan was located in Upper Coomera last year.

Maree Mavis Crabtree, 51, allegedly forced prescription medication on her 18-year-old daughter and 26-year-old son, killing them in what initially appeared to be suicides.

A friend tasked with looking after the family's Gold Coast home, while the rest of the family was away on a cruise, found Erin Crabtree’s body on September 4, 2012, sparking an investigation police said was never closed.

When her brother, Jonathan, was found dead on July 18, 2017 in the Crabtree family’s new home just down the road at Upper Coomera, homicide detectives reviewed Erin’s death and linked the two cases.

How unusual to have all three children be impaired. :thinking:

Was she drugging/poisoning them since they were babies? Creating difficulties for their growth and development? Perhaps receiving disability assistance from Centrelink and other agencies for them all, for years and years. Then enjoying a cruise, and who knows what other luxurious items.

She certainly is a vile creature!!


It is understood that after police started investigating the two deaths the surviving daughter was taken away from her mother and staged a major physical recovery.

How awful! It didn’t appear that the children were physically impaired...at least from the pictures posted up the thread. I’m no expert in what an impaired person should look like in a photo, I’m just saying they appear to be happy and healthy looking in the pictures.
I’m also wondering if the Mom had a hand in their impairment by drugging them from birth...Dee Dee Blanchard style?

When neighbours offered Gold Coast mother Maree Crabtree condolences following daughter Erin's tragic death, she responded by dismissing her children as "retarded".

The staggering reply came at a Christmas party in 2012, a neighbour told The Courier-Mail.

"We offered our condolences in 2012 after Erin died, she... responded with, ‘I’ve always said my kids are retarded'," they said.

The neighbour claims the statement was made within earshot of Ms Crabtree's other children.

Police have credited Ms Crabtree with driving son Jonathon to rob a local chemist at knifepoint for prescription painkillers in 2015.

"She has asked him or put him up to committing that armed robbery," Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said.

The neighbour claims to have overheard Ms Crabtree speaking to a pharmacist about her children's painkillers just a day after the robbery.
