Kiesha Weippeart's stepfather seeks reduced sentence over killing

The Sydney man who left six-year-old Kiesha Weippeart to die after she was bashed by her mother should have his sentence cut because his offer to help police led the mother to admit she was guilty, a court has heard.

Kiesha was murdered by Kristi Abrahams on July 13, 2011, by means of blunt force head trauma, following years of physical abuse.

After Abrahams inflicted the injuries, she and her boyfriend Robert Smith effectively left her to die, failing to provide medical assistance or call an ambulance.

He wants his sentence reduced?!! This should be hung, drawn and quartered! And then set on fire! A better sentence would be to lock him up in the same cell with Kristie for the rest of his life, having ensured first that they can't breed. Scum like Smith and Abrahams make my blood boil!

I hope once the judge has heard his appeal he reviews his sentence and sends him down for an extra few years, this guy was a complete creep.

Alternatively, let him out, but into the custody of Alison Anderson .. he'll be begging to go back in :D

Kiesha Weippeart community will celebrate 'daughter to everybody' on 13th birthday

Alison Anderson — a former friend of Kiesha's mother, Kristi Abrahams and a vocal campaigner for keeping the young girl's memory alive — told the Daily Telegraph the Mt Druitt community will come together on Saturday at her favourite park to hold a minute's silence, eat purple cupcakes, and sing Keisha's favourite song in her memory.

She said the loss of the little girl had touched local people's hearts and brought the community closer together.

"Kiesha became the daughter to everybody that they never knew they had", Ms Anderson said.

"The Mt Druitt community has a heart of gold. I’ve never met a community that when something so tragic happens it pulls together and it just blows your mind away."

Police followed Abrahams and her partner, Robert Smith to a shallow grave in April 2011. There they found the remains of the missing schoolgirl.

The pair were jailed for the murder of Keisha following a catalogue of horrific abuse. Her mother was sentenced to 22 years and nine months, while Smith will spend at least 12 years of an 18 year sentence behind bars.

Very tough to listen to, crocodile tears and sobbing doesn't mean jack****! Poor Kiesha endured a life of hell in that house!

Showing no emotion, showing too much emotion, depends on their acting skills, they can be quite convincing when interacting with police and the strangers helping her. I think it's easier if you're closely associated with the person to determine if their behaviour is genuine, what's usual or not. Kristi could sob like that when she's been caught out misbehaving or over a broken nail, she loved those red painted manicured nails.
The police and us, as outsiders, can't make that call with any accuracy, imo.

A private meeting held two weeks ago by the NSW State Parole Authority has formed an intention to free Robert Smith on parole.

Crime editor Simon Bouda told A Current Affair host Ally Langdon tonight that depending on which way a public hearing goes on April 4, Smith could be out of jail as early as April 24.

Smith is currently serving a maximum 16-year sentence for manslaughter and being an accessory to the murder of six-year-old Kiesha Abrahams.

'A big kick in the guts': Protest over Robert Smith being granted parole

"He'll be looking over his shoulder, he's going to be wishing he was still in jail," she said.
