My opinion is that Marion was manipulated from the very beginning by a marriage scammer who had no intention of ever marrying her and instead wanted her money and she was murdered in the same year that she left Australia just after that last phone call.

Sadly it does have all the hallmarks of a romance scam. There is a lost decade in solving this mystery so unless NSW Police are hiding some vital information or there is a more intensive search in parts of Europe I don’t think it’s ever going to be solved properly.

According to the latest reports she still hasn't told anyone, Medical staff, Police, no one, who she is and she says she isn't going to.

Missing person Marion Barber has just posted this info on fb. I read it wrong, she hopes family has been contacted rather than they actually have and will edit post.

Basically convicted conman, tax fraud, 42 counts of identity fraud including false passports. The kicker is he lived in Casino/Lismore areas which is very close to Byron Bay and he quote “left in the lurch creditors in Sydney Ballina, Casino, Lismore as well as Sweden, The Netherlands and Luxembourg.

My mum left for the trip of a lifetime on June 22nd 1997. It’s only taken me 24 years (I’m 48 next May- so half my life) to get to this point of finding out what has happened. I really appreciate all your support and kindness during this process and during the months ahead.
My Dad has also recently had stroke so Chris and I had to make a mercy dash to Sydney the day after our holiday to go and look after him. He is doing ok.

IMO this would be an interesting case for Liz Hayes in Under Investigation to tackle.

I am fascinated by this case as I am a single woman who travels overseas alone every year and have serious doubts that Marion died by natural causes or in Australia.

Inquest will be from 21st June - 2nd July 2021.

2 really far out theories…. They both require that the below scenario is true:

The M.F Remakel from the personals ad is Marion. She placed the ad 3 years before she went on her trip. Clearly, IF she disappeared intentionally, it required a lot of planning.


Theory 1 (and yes it’s far fetched) - there was mention of a Dr’s appointment where hormone levels seemed to be the primary focus…. Maybe Marion wanted a new life where she would be free to live as a man….

Theory 2 - The ad is actually an in search of type ad, The beginning of the ad may be detailing the attributes she is looking for in a man…. We keep reading the top as someone’s description of themselves, but it could very well be what one is looking for in a partner….
