An Australian state has offered a large reward for information after sewing needles were found in strawberries sold in supermarkets, in what the federal health minister described as a "vicious crime." The issue came to light last week when a man was taken to hospital with stomach pains after eating the fresh produce bought at a supermarket in Queensland state.

Since then, people have posted on social media photos of other strawberries with small metal pins stuck into them.

Several brands grown in Queensland have been withdrawn from supermarkets, and there have been multiple reports of other cases in the states of New South Wales and Victoria.

Look carefully before you buy and eat.
Today, at an Australian Supermarket check out, I was alerted to the 'poor state' of Bacon I was about to purchase. I left this behind.
Recently, I found VISIBLE fungus, growing in a dried Chilli jar. On returning it, with my complaint, I was offered $50!!!
Yes, watch everything you eat.

Check our map of sites where needles have been reported

PETER Dutton has called on Australians to remove social media posts containing fake images of contaminated fruit as the number of cases skyrocket. The Home Affairs Minister’s plea comes as the government attempts to push through tough new laws that would see people face hefty jail sentences if caught meddling with food.

More than 25 cases of strawberries contaminated with sewing needles are being investigated across the country, but Mr Dutton said more than 100 cases of dangerous fruit had been reported.

How do multiple fruits have the same needles in them? It is from the packing facilities?
The same farms that grow apples do not grow strawberries at the end of winter.

Boy arrested in Australia after 'admitting putting needles in fruit'

Detectives from New South Wales said that a young boy was arrested in the last few days after he “admitted to a prank” which involved putting needles in the fruit.

Police in Australia are investigating more than 100 reports of needles found in fruit. They believe that there is more than one perpetrator and that some of the cases are the work of copycat offenders or hoaxes.

Authorities have complained that the vast majority of the 100 reported cases were hoaxes, and warned that pranksters posting images on Facebook claiming that they have discovered tainted fruit could also face prosecution and potential jail time.

Reminds me of that Pepsi tampering case in 1993 in which syringes and bullets were found inside Pepsi cans. They were all hoaxes.
