Australia - Siege/Ambush at Remote Property - 6 Dead Including 2 Police/Neighbor - Wieambilla (Queensland)

The massacre in Wieambilla broke Australia’s heart and now the neighbour who lost her husband has hit back at a big accusation about the killers.

The Courier Mail has reported that Mrs Dare explained that despite the horror that happened she still doesn’t see the trio as terrorists.

When a reporter put the police’s claim that the trio were religiously-motivated terrorists, she said “that’s crap”.

“They were just neighbours. That couple used to wave to me for two years at the letterbox,” she explained.

Mrs Dare also firmly believes her husband’s death wasn’t planned by the trio.

“They weren’t there to kill Al – they were there to kill the police,” she said.

So just hypothetically, what is the possibility that if all three “parents”, mum, dad and other dad, were radicalised and are classified now as domestic terrorists, that either of their children have become radicalised also, or do we think that is just not a possibility at this stage?
I also wonder to which extent one of the children of the “Train” killers has been potentially profiting off their crime through media interviews?

MOO

I’ve also noticed that the media attention has been taken off one of the children of the Trains and now that attention has been placed more on the beautiful civilian Mr. Dare [who sacrificed his life in service to his community] and his family as, rightly, the civilian hero of this awful event.

All IMO.

Nine days after Walter lost his entire family, he sent a letter that helped change the course of Australian history

The handing over of the letters comes less than a week after Attorney General Mark Dreyfus announced a meeting of police ministers had unanimously agreed to implement a new National Firearms Register.

The move was largely prompted by the deaths of two Queensland police officers, who were killed by three people believed to hold extremist views on a remote property late last year.

...

"After 27 years, one of the most important gun reform issues that every jurisdiction agreed to in 1996 will be put in place to make Australians safer from firearm violence," the foundation's advocacy advisor Stephen Bendle said.

Alan Dare was filming a burning police car at a Wieambilla property on his phone on December 12 when Nathaniel, Gareth, and Stacey Train, shot him without any prior interaction.

Would be such a devastating thing for LE to see after discovering his phone.

Just reading more about this on the ABC live blog (now closed) and an ABC article.

November 29 - Two indictments issued by a Grand Jury in Tucson, Arizona, over interstate threats (one was in relation to comments posted online last year inciting violence in connection with the Wieambilla shootings)
December 1 - A 58-year-old man was arrested by the FBI
Today - The man appeared in court and has been remanded in custody

Nitiana Mann from the FBI is speaking now.
She starts by expressing "sincere condolences" on behalf of the FBI over the deaths of the two Queensland police officers.

"We in the United States understand that what happened that day still resonates not only with all of Australia but also with every man and woman of the FBI," she says.
Ms Mann says the FBI has "a long memory and an even longer reach".

"From Queensland, Australia, to the remote corners of Arizona, the FBI and the QPS worked jointly and endlessly to bring this man to justice," she says.
"He will face the crimes he's alleged to have perpetrated."

They say that more will be revealed in court documents, but Donald Day only appeared in court today.
Not sure how we will find the Arizona court documents, but they will be out there somewhere (once they are uploaded) as the US has public access to these things most of the time.

imo

This is a lot to take in.

Well done to law enforcement for tracking down this nefarious person and making the arrest.

Let’s see how this plays out.

It’s very interesting to hear about a joint op between FBI and QLDPOL.

I wonder how the Train’s daughter is coping with this development.

All imo.

In The Australian article about this matter, it says (paraphrased) that:

A search warrant has been issued for Donald Day's remote property which is 30kms north of the small town of Heber Overgaard (NW of Phoenix)
QPS assistant commissioner Cheryl Scanlon said that there were similarities between Day's off the grid lifestyle and the Train's off the grid lifestyle
The charge in relation to this matter is Communicating a Threat to Injure a Person and is a felony which is subject to 5 years in prison, if convicted
(As we know) the 2nd indictment is unrelated to this matter
At the moment it is unclear if Day can be charged in Australia or extradited
The criminal and Coronial investigation continues

Very interesting, to say the least.
There must be plenty of digital evidence with this case, given the suspects never even met each other.

And Arizona is chock full of crazy.

The two adult children of those responsible for the Wieambilla shooting have publicly expressed their deep regret for the suffering caused by their parents one year ago today.

"We are truly sorry for the suffering our parents have caused and the impact their actions continue to have," Aidan and Madelyn Train said in a statement released on their behalf by the Queensland Police Service.

The siblings expressed their condolences and sympathy to the family and friends of the three people who died when police were ambushed and shot dead at their parents' property, 300km west of Brisbane, on December 12 last year.

This was just such a sad case. Everytime I look at the pictures of those young officers, I just feel sooo sad. So young and vital.

It will be interesting to follow the Donald Day case, which will probably be more the US story...just an isolated loner.

. It is always so strange to me to visit Phoenix. Most congested city imaginable...takes hours to just cross town. But outside of Phoenix, it is just rural desert properties . It really can feel very scary in those deserts.

Heres the PR version:

A fun video, and really just another PR version. But fun:
