Thea was a transient 42 year old woman who lived in various communal sites and campgrounds around Australia. At the time she went missing she was living with an undisclosed 46 year old man on a property at Mooball, NSW.

Thea has not been heard from since 31st October 2019 and her bank accounts haven’t been touched. Her family reported her missing in January 2020 after not hearing from her in 2 months, which was unusual.

Police hold serious fears for her safety.

Missing for 4 months: Have you seen Thea?

I just saw that on the Theo Hayez family Facebook page that the police contacted his family to let them know they were searching for Thea. They didn’t want Theo’s family to get their hopes up for a breakthrough.

Bones found in search for missing woman

Human remains have been found in the search for a woman missing from northern NSW since last October.
Police were conducting a two-day operation in Byron Bay bushland looking for Thea Liddle, who was reported missing by her family in January.
She was last seen in the Moonball area on October 31, 2019.
Police have established a crime scene and said it is too early to determine whether the remains are male or female.

‘Skeletal remains’ found in Byron Bay search for missing woman

Police have found “skeletal remains” in bushland in Byron Bay during a search for a woman, Thea Liddle, missing since October 2019.
Several searches of bushland in and around Byron Bay – “where Thea was known to have been residing in the months leading up to her disappearance” – began on Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman told news.com.au on Wednesday afternoon a crime scene had been established after the discovery near Tallow Beach.

“Skeletal remains were located in bushland near Byron Bay,” she said.

Thea isn’t the only person missing in the Byron Bay area - Belgian backpacker Theo Hayez was last seen in a local bar in July 2019.

Wow unbelievable!! Very scary thought as to who’s remains these are! If not Thea’s perhaps Theo’s. fantastic discovery either way and another lead to find out exactly what had occurred initially after forensics do their procedures. So so sad for both of their families

Seems like the Police were pretty sure they weren't Theo's.
Maybe clothes or other items were found that ruled out a male.
Yes so sad for the family and friends of whoever this poor person was.

Police say it is highly unlikely that skeletal remains found in Byron Bay on Wednesday are those of missing Belgian backpacker Theo Hayez.

He also said there was "no evidence" to suggest a person in the area was preying on homeless people - and that the disappearances of Ms Liddle and Mr Hayez happening in close proximity was "completely coincidental".

The remains have been confirmed as female.

Paraphrasing here as Subscriber only article :

The post-mortem examination did not reveal any sign of injury with police still unclear how Thea died and when.

On November 15 at 1.20pm, near Tallow Beach Police officers stumbled across a tent, and other items.

There was luggage, women’s clothing, a library card, mail and the milk carton with the use by date November 7, 2019.

Police also discovered female human remains.

Last week, those remains were positively identified as Ms Liddle.

Also from the same article,

Thea's Phone Data was a crucial in assisting to find her.

Paraphrased -

Thea lived off the grid but maintained a strong connection to her friends and family, and a strong social media presence.

Alex Cowan , a MPR analyst, crunched Ms Liddle’s phone data, taking pressure off detectives on the ground who could focus on interviewing locals and friends to build another integral part of the investigation – victimology.

From the phone tower Ms Liddle’s phone activity last “pinged” from, Ms Cowan created a search area.

Detectives established Strike Force Holby to investigate the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

The case was later reviewed under the new unsolved homicide framework in conjunction with the new Missing Persons Registry (MPR).

The State Crime Commander, Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith, said the MPR had drawn new lines of enquiry leading to the bushland area where she may been living.

"As a result, a coordinated search was conducted of the area and human remains were located, which were then analysed by forensic experts at NSW Health Pathology.

"It is this coordinated approach — both within the force and with our partner agencies — that is seeing answers provided to more families and, in many cases, far quicker than we ever have before."

Just wondering does anyone know where thea is living in June 2019. Is she in the Byron area? As it seems she camps near tallows beach. Would be interesting to know if she is in town at this point.
