At 1.30pm Saturday afternoon on the 23rd of November, unresponsive toddlers, aged 1 and 2 were found by their mother having died of heatstroke after being left in a black family car on a 31 degree (C) day.

The mother, 27 year old Kerri-Ann Conley was arrested and charged with the murder of her young daughters. She was the first to discover the girls and attempted to cool their bodies down by soaking them in the bathtub.

She will face a Brisbane court on Monday the 25th of November.

She was not present at the hearing. She will appear again at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on December 11.

Initial reports stated that Kerri-Ann was the first to respond to the toddlers, however 10daily.com.au states that it was emergency services who found the two little girls, aged 2 and 1, unresponsive in a black station wagon parked in the front yard of their home.

well then what about the story of her trying to cool them down in the bathtub?

The Australian also had a detailed update for the case.

In their report, The Australian adds that Ms Conley had been reported in the past for leaving her children unattended in the car. Neighbours noticed that this had been regularly. One even described having heard a child screaming from the house for around an hour.

Nine News reported that Ms Conley "had fallen asleep inside the house" while the children remained in the hot car on that 30+ degree day. Ms Conley also faces two drug charges when police recovered cannabis and a pipe from the home on Saturday, November 23rd.

It was suspected that the children had remained in the vehicle unattended for up to six hours before they were found.

Western Magazine reported that the family was known to and engaged in contact with the state's child safety services.

There are unverified rumours that Ms Conley had recently been reissued with custody of her daughters after having them removed from the home. Further updates will either confirm or deny these claims.

Neighbours also said that it was unusual to see the family's black station wagon where it was found on Saturday, on the grass in the front yard instead of in the driveway to the right of the property where it was most commonly parked.

These were the initial reports that surfaced from the media the day that the children were found. No other credible information was available from law enforcement until this morning.

Ms Conley's case was heard in Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning which has provided more detailed statements about the case. I will continue to update with any developments or new information as it becomes available.

IMO Unfortunately it's probably a blessing in disguise for these 2 children. Image the future life of these 2 children having a mother like this bringing you up. Hope she spends the rest of her life rotting in prison where she can't breed no more.

ADDITIONAL REPORTS:

A friend of Kerri-Ann Conley has come forward with the claim that on the morning of November 23rd, 2019 she arrived at the family home in the south of Brisbane and found the girls (aged 2 and 1) "nearly falling asleep" in the bath.

MOO:
1. Why were the young girls left unattended in the bath?
2. The friend claims this happened early in the morning. Why were the children "nearly falling asleep" in the morning?!

The father of the two year old, and father figure to the one year old has made statements to the media expressing his concerns that calls made by relatives to child services went ignored. He claims that several calls were made from family members over a period of only three months.

MOO:
I've done child safe training in South Australia. I imagine that it is the same or similar nationwide. While it's understandable that Children's Services cannot follow up on every report and call made, it is gross negligence on the part of the department to not have followed up and investigated once two or more calls of concern were made in such a short space of time regarding the same family. I think calls placed by relatives of the family should also have more importance added to them - it's usually quite difficult to report a family member for child neglect and/or abuse which means that the situation must be serious enough for them to call. I understand that sometimes, these calls are made out of spite and are manipulative, deceitful ways to seek revenge on someone (similar to filing restraining orders based on false accusations) however it's situations like these which prove that it's better just to be safe and find out whether there really is any cause for concern.

I find it difficult to know what to say in these kinds of threads but I'll give my opinion anyway. The woman clearly loves drugs more than her children, she'd deny it but it's true. I'm glad she was charged with murder, there are too many negligent parents/caregivers leaving their child/ren strapped in the car to die the most horrible death imaginable. These people lack empathy, they wouldn't stay in a stationary car in the heat of the day for 5 minutes but it's okay for the kids, they don't think past themselves. :( Their distorted thinking is that the child/ren are 'safe' confined in a space, a space in a vehicle meant only for transportation. Or, won't disturb/bother whatever they're doing inside the house or shopping centre or gambling casino! There'll be all the excuses under the sun but their child/ren were never their top priority.

Scaring these parents and caregivers with a prison sentence if they leave their child/ren in cars unattended might prevent future death and injuries, but maybe, they shouldn't have children in their care at all!

Agreed.
Maybe some people shouldn't have children at all, but sadly, there are people who choose to have multiple children in circumstances where they cannot afford to care for them themselves, either financially, emotionally, or both.
IMO, the onus of responsibility for the welfare of any child is with the parents. While I understand the father of the eldest girl is grieving and feels the need to blame someone, the government is not to blame here. Maybe family should have stepped in to help, rather than make a call or two to an over extended and inundated government department (that people complain about all the time for being inept) and expecting them to sort it out. If one thing comes out of this, I do hope somewhere, there will be people who recognise that they sometimes have to rely on themselves taking action for things, rather than sit idly by and wait for someone else to do it.

I mostly agree but unfortunately, these children are often born into several generations deep of family troubles and it's not their fault. Those who want to take action might have issues themselves and by law, they're not allowed to remove the children, and if they're not welcome in the home, what else can they do but report.

Police were quick to arrest their mother, Kerri-Ann Conley, 30, and charged her with two counts of murder.

It is the most serious offence available and is normally reserved for people who intentionally kill and comes with a hefty mandatory penalty – life in prison.

This was possible due to a legislative change in Queensland which had only come into effect weeks before the girl's deaths.
