The mother charged with kidnapping her 8-month-old son — last seen alive here almost a year ago — confessed to a San Antonio police detective that she killed him, a Phoenix TV station reported.

It’s been nearly a year since a Tempe baby’s disappearance made national headlines as law enforcement in four states, private detectives and family members searched for missing Gabriel Johnson.

Now forensics experts and authorities say they believe the child is dead.

Elizabeth Johnson, the mother of missing baby Gabriel Johnson, failed to show up in Phoenix courtroom Monday for a hearing regarding charges related to the disappearance of her infant son. She has refused to attend almost all of the hearings held in the case.

Despite her absence, her lawyer argued he should be allowed to interview the prosecutor in the case.

Elizabeth Johnson's attorney believes missing "Baby Gabriel" is alive

The attorney representing Elizabeth Johnson, the mother of missing 'Baby Gabriel', is firing back at what is being said about his client.

"She wants the truth to come out," said Daniel Raynak while sitting in his central Phoenix office. "She's not a monster, she's a young woman who cares deeply about her child."

UPDATE: Friday morning the judge ruled that homicide detective Jesse Salame must go to Arizona to answer questions under oath. The judge also ruled that Salame has to turn over the taped jailhouse interviews he conducted with Baby Gabriel's mother, Elizabeth Johnson,

Attorney aims for dismissal in 'Baby Gabriel' case

The attorney representing Elizabeth Johnson, the mother of missing 'Baby Gabriel' told me he plans to request the case against Johnson be dismissed pending the deposition of a San Antonio detective.

Once again, Elizabeth Johnson, the mother of missing baby Gabriel Johnson, was supposed to be in court this morning. Once again, Johnson didn't show up, despite the fact that she's in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

McMurdie set a new hearing date for August 11. Johnson, he says, "must" be there.

This is now the fourth time Johnson's refused to show up for court.
