Belize - Faye Lin Cannon, 13, brutally slain, San Pedro, 3 July 2017 *American parents arrested*

From June 19, 2018:
American national Anke Doehm, charged with cruelty to a child in connection the death of her 13 year old adopted daughter, Faye Lin Cannon, was today indicted in the court of Justice Marilyn Williams. She pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her.

Child cruelty. According to the autopsy poor Faye Lin was malnourished and sexually abused by Anke's husband. I'm sorry Anke isn't also charged with child endangerment resulting in death for failing to protect her daughter. And it wouldn't surprise me if a) she knew and let it happen in order to keep her husband and b) if Faye Lin's sisters were also sexually abused. JMO.

I'm glad they are out of this awful woman's grip and I hope they will be able to go on to live happy, safe lives.

In late September, Anke Doehn petitioned to come to the U.S. for medical purposes. However, that resulted in her bail being withdrawn...

“Doehm wants to have a consultation with a doctor in the United States and wants the court to give her permission to leave the country.

While applying for and receiving variation to a bail condition is a standard procedure for foreigners who are charged with serious crimes in this jurisdiction, it turned out to be anything but routine for Doehm. That is because the person who signed the surety on behalf of Doehm decided to withdraw his bail when he learned that Doehm wanted to travel to the U.S.”

“However, before the court could make a decision the petition was allegedly withdrawn. The San Pedro Sun contacted the Supreme Court in Belize City, who indicated that there is no further information on when she is to return to court. Doehm faces a charge of ‘Cruelty to a Child,’ in connection with the death of her 13-year-old adopted daughter, Faye Lin Cannon, who was found dead in her bedroom on July 3, 2017.”

I can’t find anything more recent than these stories.

After several months, American National Anke Doehm was back in Supreme Court in Belize City on Wednesday, January 23rd. She is facing a charge of ‘Cruelty to a Child’ in connection to the death of her adopted daughter, Faye Lin Cannon, who died in 2017. Doehm was in court for a ‘Case Management Conference,’ where she was informed to return to court on June 18, 2019, to finalize her trial.

The last time she was in court was in September of 2018 where she sought permission to travel to the United States of America (USA) for health reasons. Doehm had formally submitted her petition, but before approval, it was suddenly withdrawn.

Thanks for the update.

I didn’t know DD killed himself...

“The Doehms were charged and remanded to the Belize Central Prison but managed to secure a $10,000 bail. While they continued to claim their innocence in the case, investigators were preparing to reveal forensic evidence. Before this happened, David Doehm was found dead inside a room of the Ramada Princess Hotel and Casino in Belize City. His death was ruled as a suicide after they found a note next to his bed.”

Ps: Her photo is a stark contrast from her “yoga pics” I remember on her SM.

This is the most recent news I can find. I suppose the trial may have been further delayed after the pandemic began.

There are no indications as to when the criminal court case against American National Anke Doehm will hear a verdict. Doehm, who continues to face a charge of ‘Cruelty to a Child,’ in connection with the death of her adoptive daughter, Faye Lin Cannon, was in court on January 16th. As on previous occasions, the trial was adjourned. Doehm is now expected to be back in court on March 5, 2020.
The Supreme Court in Belize City, where the trial is taking place, was unable to say if the case will see closure anytime soon. The hearing has been continuously adjourned since 2017, the same year Faye suspiciously died at the family’s condo in northern Ambergris Caye.

A check with the Supreme Court in Belize City confirmed that Doehm remains in the country. Her court appearance reportedly took place in May of this year, and since then, no other court appearances are confirmed. The amount of time between court appearances is attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the Supreme Court temporarily closed at times.
According to reports from the court, there is no timeframe for when Doehm’s case will end. The most likely scenario is that it might continue to be adjourned over the next months.

High Court Judge Derick Sylvester remanded Anke Doehm to prison until her sentencing after a nine-member jury unanimously found her guilty of willfully neglecting her adopted daughter between January 1, 2017, and July 3, 2017, in San Pedro Town.

Despite Doehm’s claims of innocence, the Director of Public Prosecution Cheryl Lynn Vidal argued that the child, Fay Lin Cannon, 13, suffered neglect and malnutrition, ultimately leading to her death.

Finally some justice for Faye Lin. I hope her sentence is stiff but I’m not holding my breath. I can’t believe she’s been free for 7 years after Faye Lin’s death.

Anke’s sentencing is delayed until April 8.

Faye had been malnourished, as well as physically and sexually abused. Doehm appeared before Justice Derick Sylvester today, who, after considering the aggravating and mitigating factors, handed down a five-year sentence with effect from march fourth, 2024 when she was found guilty.

Aggravated factors included a lack of remorse, a lack of accountability, the neglect of Faye and a failure to provide adequate meals and physical abuse inflicted by Doehm’s husband. Judge also noted that Doehm requires psychological help and is a danger to children in society. As a result, she must also enroll in every rehabilitation program at the prison, and she is not eligible for parole until after serving half of her five-year prison term.
