Just saw the news about the aftershock. I'm confused - did the aftershock hit in a different area than the original quake? If so, is that the normal thing that happens?

I felt that one much stronger than the one on the 4th.

My kitchen floor was trembling and rolling, I had to lean against the counter because I felt unstable.

Hubby ran out of the bedroom saying we needed to go outside. I followed but I dont think it was necessary. lol

No, it was in the relatively same area. it was next to Ridgecrest Ca, like the last one.

But it felt so much stronger here than the last one. I am on the coast, about 2 and half hours from the epicentre.

Seeing people on Twitter who didn't feel the last one say they felt this one.

Friend just said the same - didn't feel first one, but got a good rattle at 8:20PM Pacific just a while ago. Had to get up and stabilize a tall piece of furniture, house creaking, lots of rattling noises like dishes.

KTLA: Prelim same area in Searles Valley near Ridgecrest, 7.1. I cannot even open the USGS website.

I hope those poor people didn't just get wiped out. 7.1 is destructive.
